There's a thread in the Bike Racks.

Just to give some input: I agree with #2 in regards to the current issue. It would be helpful to list those we've given permanent admin status to.

Jny, I am reminded of movies where a respected ex-spy / action hero is pulled back into the fray to solve a world crisis that the current bunch of hacks couldn't even begin to solve.

Either that or Jimmy Carter's post-Presidential years.

Lilly, thanks! Dive right in.

Eru, thanks. Imo, it's especially helpful to hear about things like that which are kind of boring issues but are the face of the board that new members might see first.

Liddy, my new avatar will be Bond, Jny Bond. ;) Seriously, though, I don't have time these days to contribute more than the donkey-type stuff to the committee.

Stickied to make this easier to find.

I have been following the talk about the email addresses. I can't seem to remember exactly why we have two accounts, but I think it was for backup purposes. I think we should have one official account, but I see no reason to keep the other as a backup in case one of them is down.
One can be labeled emergency backup when the addresses are listed.
Not a big deal though.

Holby, thanks for the sticky!

If I understand the committee correctly, they are wanting to make the emails a Ranger issue rather than a charter issue. So ... emails posted under Administrator id in as many places as seems needed?

Perhaps the current + permanent Rangers could make a decision about how they want to handle this - how many addresses and which and where to put them, and just let the rest of us know. You're welcome to use this thread to discuss it of course.

The threads in the Sensitive Info Mayor forum are pretty benign and inconsequential.
Yet there are a few names posted in them so I guess they should remain in a hidden forum.

Whilst I'm not surprised at what is now happening in the Charter thread, I would really hope that the personal bickering doesn't halt the progress. Not everyone is going to agree on what should be put in the charter. They didn't the first time around and it's definitely not going to happen now given the members making up this committee.

I would think the members need to state what they want, discuss and explain a bit then a ballot for the committee to decide what they will present to the board membership should be drawn up and voted on. Then send it to the board membership to be ratified or not.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who does not want the committee thread to disintegrate into petty fighting as this is exactly the sort of thing we want to stop.

Eru, I've been traveling for the past couple days but we'll be moving forward again in the committee momentarily. I sort of wanted to hear people's opinions at a philosophical level before assembling specific changes for a vote because so many issues in those two Articles are intertwined. I think I've got a sense now of the direction in which people want to go and I'll try to summarize those modifications for people to discuss and vote in the next day or so.

Meanwhile, I have to apologize to you because you made a good suggestion earlier in this thread and I totally forgot to remind Jude about it when he wrote up the ownership section. Now that amendment is being ratified and I don't want to add things while members are in the middle of voting. But your suggestion was to add the names of people who have permanent admin status to the ownership section. Maybe when we do the next ratification vote we can add an amendment to our amendment to include that ... I hope existing members won't mind the slight confusion because it doesn't change anything from their point of view, but it's a really helpful thing for new members to be able to read.

Hey, Jewel: FYI, technically you're not supposed to be posting in this thread since you aren't a member of the committee. Members can comment here:

http://board77.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5877" target="_blank" target="_blank

I know we're sick to death of rules and regulations but I see Jude saying that two people want to try hiding the bike racks and it would be helpful if you didn't get accidentally counted as a voting member of the committee.

Rangers feel free to move or delete this post if necessary.
Ranger note: moved from the committee thread in the Bike Racks.

Well, damn. Shows how much I know...I just thought this was the thread to comment. I didn't know there were two threads.

Maybe only committee members should be able to see or post in this thread, to avoid confusion? It could be "read only" for others?

I'll go quietly now...

Maybe when a ranger moves some posts they can post saying they did? Otherwise it looks like I'm telling Jewel she shouldn't be commenting in this thread.

How about, Rangers are elected democratically for a certain period of time
That didn't work before. When we finally realised the board wasn't going to just be about coming up with something to present TORC mods, we thought in order to choose who's in the mod positions that we'd vote on it. Well, some people lost more than once and it became apparent that the voting was too cliquey and too much like a popularity contest so that's why we went with anybody is able to be a ranger, members can object to a certain person and there would be a rota.

Is the charter that has been posted as being the full thing going to be the full thing?

I need to know if there are going to be any specific rules about the TOE - i.e., I need to know if I need to delete my posts in that forum or not. With no rules... if posters can't protest certain people being allowed in, and if there is nothing to do with number of posts or time on the board....that forum is essentially open to anyone and everyone over 18.

Everyone who has ever posted in there has a right to know if the protections are gone, and should be allowed a grace period to delete any posts and request references to them in other posts be deleted before any new members are allowed in the forum.

Thanks

No, Estel, it's not all there is. We want to keep specific by-laws, especially the ones dealing with ToE. That's the simplified main charter. We'll keep the good parts of the old charter that deal with all of the technicalities. Actually, we're discussing now (or will be soon) what we need to keep. I completely agree that all of the rules with ToE just need to stay in place.
