Considering when I left their place on March 10th, I know they hadn't watched any of BSG, I'm thinking at least Steve might have!
And it's not all about tech vs religion. Really that's not right at all. I'd say it's about breaking a cycle of violence. Yes, some higher power is out there in BSG world but religion doesn't play into it. According to Ron Moore, Starbuck wasn't necessarily an angel or demon or whatever. They purposefully didn't pin down what she was. She was there and lived a mortal life then died on original Earth and was then Ressurrected in order to lead the people to their end.

All in all, I'm ambivalent about this ending. It all seemed to wrap up too quickly and after they got to our Earth, it felt like RotK with multiple endings. I
really don't like that Starbuck just vanished.
I don't know...really, I'm not sure any ending would do the show justice.
