Hadn't been interested, but the marketing has intrigued me a bit. I went over to Rotten Tomatoes and it's 100% positive right now with a number of reviews in! This one might actually be worth watching. :Q I've been a Star Trek fan mostly casual, but had lost interest in recent years. Thoughts and/or reviews?

I'm expecting it to be horrible, but I'll go see it anyway. If it's good I'll be pleasantly surprised.

My girlfriend said she'd go with me... if I go to see Wolverine with her. (She's a Gambit fan).

We shall see...

I'll probably see it tonight. I've read some of the Star Trek books and like the orginal characters the best and the trailer looks decent. So I am hoping it will be good. I've always the dynamic between Bones, Kirk, and Spock. :)

My favorite comment so far from a pre-screener was that it is full of muscled guys that can act and leggy girls that don't need too.

Isn't this the whole point of Star Trek? Overacting Kirk with leggy green girls from another planet.

Massive loool...

To be honest, I can't wait to see this. I think it can only be mind-blowingly amazing or cringingly, hilariously terrible, so I'll enjoy it either way!

I'm tempted to see it in IMAX and really be wowed or revolted. :P Probably wowed. I'm an eclectic Trekkie.

You will definitely be wowed!!

I went last night with the terrible trio (husband and two kids) as my mother's day gift. They came willingly enough but I went in with three cynical skeptics and walked out with three trekkies! :D

I iz happy.

The casting is excellent; the characterisations for each of them are spot on without being slavish - you can see just how the mannerisms and dynamic between the team are going to develop. And the storyline fits so perfectly into what we already know of the Federation and those outside it. Best of all, for me, there were no cringe-moments in the whole movie. Marvellous!

And it's a rollicking adventure.

My joy after seeing this movie is tempered by the sadness than now I have to live in a universe where the latest Star Trek is better than the Star Wars pre-equals.

The movie was great. :) And there is no doubt in my mind but that there should be a second one made. The characters were played spot on. I was a bit worried reading about the actor that played Kirk saying that he started out studying Shatner's portral of Kirk but then abandoned that for doing his own thing with the character. But I felt like everyone did very well. :)

Spoiler ALERT!!

They didn't fix the continuity changes after the while time warp thing though???? Spock's mom didn't die like that? Was Vulcan destroyed? I didn't think so... I'm not sure about Kirk's dad dying when he was young though. Was that cannon? Is this something they can or should fix in the next movie?

I thought it was brilliant.

I was pleasantly surprised by the casting. All star casts don't always flow as well as this one did. I think the best bit of casting was Urban as Bones. I thought he got McCoy right on!

I think I'll see it again.

Also thought Eric Bana was quite evil!

This is probably the best film I've seen in quite a while.

To answer REL SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am pretty sure Spock's mother died of old age. In TNG Spock's father gets a second human wife at some point after Spocks mother dies (Vulcans live twice as long as humans (or more)). About Vulcan that is huge gigantic massive change. The Vulcans were one of the oldest members of the Federation and they sort of fostered Earth. They were the older experienced people. They are a gigantic infulence throughout the entire franchise. So yeah that will definitely make things different. I do not think it should be fixed for the next movie. I do not think they have the technology to "fix " things anyway since that was one gigantic ship. I do think though things from the old timeline, will effect events in the new timeline, since this gang is fully aware, things are different. By them just knowing that changes things. Kirk knows he was a historical figure. (That could make hime even more brazen). Although the timeline is different the personalities are similar (Spock still says "fascinating" for example).

For them to fix things I think they would have to go back to the point of where Kirk was born, and if they did that, they could mess stuff up even more. (He almost wasn't born.) I do remember Kirk growing up with an average home life. I am pretty sure he actually got to meet his father at some point in his life.

I'm not a Trekkier, Crucifer, but I just loved it. It really is a splendid film: exciting and spectacular but it's the spot-on characterisations that make it so good. :) The cast are PERFECT.

I saw it at the London IMAX last night. W00t!

Warp drive in IMAX format =

A great film, and a wonderful reinvention of a beloved franchise. :)

Going to see it today, trying to convince several non trekkie friends that they'll enjoy it. (I'm not quite a trekkie myself, but it's simply because I haven't the time or money! ha!)

I'd really love to see it in IMAX... Anyone willing to sponsor me before tonight!?

My first reaction to the ads was to think the style incongruent with Star Trek's portrayal of a human evolutionary trajectory toward understatement and dispassion. Then I remembered that William Shatner was the original star. :blackeye:
