There has been lots of publicity over the last month about the Birther movement. These are the folks that claim that President Obama is illegally occupying the office because he was not born in the USA. Obama has a legit birth certificate from a state - Hawaii. There are at least two public notices in that states newspapers at the time of his birth making the announcement. Witnesses have come forward saying that they were there at the time. But still, the Birther movement persists.
Research 2000, a company which had a very good record during the last election cycle, has done a poll to find out who the Birthers are.

The results indicate that the largest group who support this idea are concentrated in just one region of the nation and are pretty much confined to one demographic group. When you combine these results with the results of the election results from November it looks like there are some unmistakable conclusions to be drawn here. Sad to say but this is simply additional evidence that some of the old and ugly divisions that split our nation in the past are here again in one form or the other.
