Oh, yes, on Thranduil! :) Totally agree! I'm also digging Thorin and Beorn. :w00t:

Updated again!

PJ confirmed Orlando Bloom! We're assuming he'll be playing Legolas.

And updated again!

We now have Bard, Smaug, an Elf-maiden, and the Goblin King!

I'm still so excited about Lee Pace.

Evangeline Lily is interesting. She has a perfect look for an elf, and if they make her a warrior more than a maiden than fuck yeah! But she's not the greatest actress, or at least, has a really annoying character to make me forget about. :D

I was really stoked about Humphries too. That'll be fun.

Oh, and was Radagast in the book? I can't remember any of the Necromancer stuff! Unless they're using retcon from LOTR. At least it's a shorter novel to freshen up on in time for the films heh.

Yes. :Q

Or at least, seeing pictures of the cast dressed up makes it seem more real after years of reading articles about law suits and Del Toro leaving the project heh.

*E* I too am "squeeing" lots. I wasn't at all involved in the build up to Fellowship (I only realised the film was coming out a couple of weeks before it arrived in cinemas!) and so all this is new to me.

I fear I may become a squealing fangirl over some of those Dwarves. :LMAO:

Both rolling and in awe of this. :P Granted I'd heard they were trying to make a LOTR movie around 1998, but I'd seen enough advertising months beforehand to know it was a ~big deal~ and even randomly asked classmates if anyone was seeing it opening weekend. You have made me wonder how I followed any of the film-making process before TORC, though! I didn't do spoilers until after FOTR, and I can't remember any of my news sources from back in the day. But I knew when Elijah was cast and how they were going to digitally shorten characters, and remember thinking Legolas was played by Mark Paul Gosselar when I first saw the trailer that summer. ;)

Andy Serkis' production video #2 showed a costume fitting with Cate Blanchett. I nearly fainted. So... still prefer the elves, :P but I look forward to meeting dwarves who aren't Gimli, in the hopes that they have no choice but to give some of the crowd different personalities.

I am going to be unashamedly swooning over Thorin I think. He doesn't look very Dwarfish but I don't think I'm going to be that bothered by such a triviality. :LMAO:

I think my lack of awareness around the films is less surprising when you consider that I'm not into films more generally. Bar a mother-and-baby showing of Fantastic Mr Fox that I went to with my ante-natal group, the last film I saw in the cinema was Kingdom of Heaven. I don't find time to sit and watch them at home either.

Hey, my last film at home has been at least a year now, while my last time in the theatre was with Wilma in October. Even without babies, the time can catch up on ya. :P But you and Din, I probably figured the odd historical drama would catch your interest, even if just to throw rotten vegetables at the screen. ;)

Thorin, I probably would want to look a little different. He da man, after all.

I forget which of the dwarf actors has done gay porn, but it's things like that that definitely make me more excited for this film than I thought I'd be. :blackeye:

I don't even know what I was on, but I re-read the article and he's just normal gay, not porn gay. lol anyway, it's Luke Evans, and he'll play Bard the Bowman.

Like that would even be the most mind-bleachy news I'd read this weekend.

I don't even like looking at LOTR races unless they are elves, or reliably fancy like female characters and Gondorians. :P It's why I wasn't sure about The Hobbit, cuz Mirkwood is troublesome and I don't like Elrond anyway haha. At least they are bringing Galadriel back, and Evangeline Lily's playing a new character. There is hope.

Okay, supposedly, with the addition of Billy Connolly as Dain, the main cast is complete. The first post reflects the latest info I have.

You'll note that they never recast Drogo, so I wonder if they abandoned that storyline. I deleted him from the cast list in any case.
