My Stargate SG-1 season 8 set finally arrived and I watched the first two episodes on two consecutive days. So the replicators are back? :spider:

I really liked Dr. Weir - so I'm sad that she's getting re-assigned :bawl:

There are lots of comments on amazon that Season 8 is less good than the others but the first two episodes certainly made for compelling viewing.

I'm not sure, but I think she ends up as part of one of the SG spin-offs. (SG-Atlantis?) I'm too lazy to check, but you could if you're interested.

Yeah, she's a main character in Stargate Atlantis. We liked the first season of Stargate Atlantis better than the 8th season of SG1- but the series slump really starts in Season 9.

It's really sad, because I loved Ben Browder and Claudia Black in Farscape. They really are great actors- but the writing of seasons 9 & 10 made them seem mediocre at best. It was obviously an attempt to save the show by signing on a couple of actors who generated a fanbase that was powerful enough to get a mini series made after Farscape was cancelled.... but they bungled it.

When I started watching Farscape again after seeing those two in Seasons 9 & 10, it was with a serious sigh of relief. Both of them are SO good in that series. It was pathetic how they were handled in SG1.

Is Stargate Atlantis as good as SG-1? Or nearly?

I don't know. I haven't watched it, but I know my mil likes it (enough to ask us to get her the DVDs for Christmas).

I saw the "Icon" episode just now. In a scene that supposedly takes place on a planet that has never before made contact with Earth, everyone in the office has a 1970's telephone at their desk. Yes, I've seen the exact same model many times here on Earth.

Stargate SG-1: moments of greatness interspersed with moments of incredible lameness :D

The first few seasons of Stargate Atlantis are great. The last two are kind of lame. Watchable, but vaguely disappointing.

I'm doing a slow re-watch of the series (maybe 2-3 episodes per month) and am on Season 8 right now. I just watched the episode where Claudia Black is introduced and she's not bad at all this time. If I recall correctly, though, she doesn't come back til next season. I guess I'll go through the last two seasons again, although I couldn't really tell you why.

Sounds like you're ahead of me, because I haven't seen her yet!

Not yet - but it's been recommended on this board twice so it's on my to-watch list.

Next on the list though, after I've finished SG-1 is Battlestar Galactica. My brother and his wife constantly tell me how great it is and ask why I haven't watched it yet.

I picked up this version in the UK for £49.99 last year

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Babylon-Complet ... 278&sr=8-1

If you have a region free DVD player, you should pick it up when you're in Edinburgh!

Complete BSG is also about €50 on DVD

Oh, and I'd recommend B5 before watching BSG. B5 was groundbreaking, but the style was taken up and perfected in BSG. As such it makes a better viewing order if you watch them in the order they were made!

I can usually find a season of either show on amazon.ca for under $20. But yeah, I'll take your advice and watch Babylon-5 first. My brother will just have to nag me for a little longer. :D

Maria, I meant the new one, not the 1980's one.

Although the old one is much more "Stargatey" what with those Tutankhamun helmets!

Only three more episodes of season 8 to go - it looks like Dr. Jackson has died (again).

To completely avoid spoilers, I should actually try to avoid even looking at the DVD covers. Too late though - I know that he survives or comes back in one form or another.

I thought this was a really good season.
