Hi all,

I thought it might be worth looking into combining some Fora and Categories to better reflect our reduced membership. Fewer areas to read means people are more likely to comment on what is posted I think so here are some suggestions:

The Round Table:
Move the Welcome forum in here
The Turf
The Symposium
Members Lounge (Merge with Meet and Geek as both are considered private)
TOE (Or delete altogether given how many people shared stuff there and are no longer here?)
Movies and Music (Merge with Made in Dale and call it Hobbies and Entertainment?)
Literary Rambles (Merge with There and Back Again, or possibly put both into Hobbies and Entertainment)

Board Management:
We could move the Business forum in here and delete most of the rest, or leave them.

Any thoughts?

I like your suggestions to consolidate fora. Not so sure about deleting stuff, but I'm a bit of a hoarder, so ignore me!

I too agree with the suggestions, except that I'd like to hold off on deleting stuff.

I also like the idea of consolidating. But I am an archivist at heart, so I cringe at the thought of deleting stuff. (Okay, "hoarder" is probably a more accurate term. ;) )

No worries! I suppose its always worth hanging onto the Charter thread in case some idiot decides in the future that it might be a good idea to try something like that again. ;)

Ok, I have moved around the categories but no threads have been merged yet. Everyone happy before I proceed with the non-reversible stuff like merging threads?

Actually, just realised that if I move the Business thread into Board Management it may not be visible to standard members. Moving it into The Round Table until someone can give me confirmation!

Let me borrow someone's permissions, and I'll let you know....

Using a regular member's permissions, there are 3 threads visible in the Board Management forum. But I know someone can't post in at least the first thread. So I'm thinking (without going to confirm, mind you) that Board Management is read-only. Obviously, that won't work for the Business Room.

It may make sense to have Business Room at the top; it's not often active, but when it is, it's usually something that everyone should read.

What do you think?

I was trying to avoid the usual syndrome of having to skip down about 3 fora to get the the first and most popular? Rather than planning for the occasional glitch, shouldn't we plan for the best daily use?

That's a good point too.

How about: Turf, then Business Room, then the others?

I think "Welcome" can be merged with Turf. If ever we started getting an influx of new members, we could always create a new Welcome forum if needed.

Ok, starting some merges now. This may end up with some confusing replies if anybody goes back reading older threads!

I was a bit confused when I first logged in, but it looks tidier. Well done on the work. :)

While we're at it, can we remove the 11 or 12 stickies and announcements at the top of the Turf forum? Most of them are now irrelevant and they stop you from seeing the actual new posts!

I was actually going to suggest that!

Do we still need the "Forum Management" forum? It serves the same purpose as the Business Room, except that nobody but rangers can post there - I don't think we really need it. The threads could be moved into the Business Room.

What do you think?

Good idea. Will I go ahead and tidy up the stuff at the top of Turf so?

Sure - I unstickied a couple and then got bogged down on reading the others...

Looking good, guys!

I've been gone all weekend, so I'm sorry I haven't been around to help.

Alright, there's only 3 stickies left in Turf now.

B77Headline news
New Members welcome
What is the Turf Tavern

I think we could probably lose the last one, but I'm not bothered either way.
