How cold is it there?

It's not too bad here.

Did anyone else see this cool video of my favorite lake being all crazy and awesome?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hb9lL7WDKg

(Turn down your volume at first. The guy is pretty excited about capturing this on video. :D)

It's been jumping around between minus twenty and minus thirty.

We had another huge snowstorm here - but with the warm temperatures it was actually the nice, fluffy kind of snow. It looks like Christmas!

So, has the flooding in Ottawa & area made the news elsewhere? This year the Ottawa River actually surged higher than it did in 2017 (anyone remember mypictures from that year?)

Many more homes were destroyed this year. A suburb of Montreal had to be evacuated in minutes when a dam upstream burst. A major bridge connecting Ottawa to Gatineau had to be closed because the water was so high (barely below the "road" part of the bridge, in fact).

This is from today:

Oh my goodness! I haven't watched or read the news in awhile, so I don't know if it's making news here or not. Floods are so scary and destructive, though. :(

The good news is the waters are starting to recede...

In other news, we had an amazing weekend, weather-wise- Mid-20's! I could actually go out without my jacket!

We've had some of that again this year too. Not as bad as you and not as bad as last year, but I think people are starting to accept spring river flooding as the new normal. Really, it seems like we see creeks and rivers escaping their banks for a day or so every time it rains now, even when the rain isn't that heavy, and even when things were pretty dry before. I'm not sure if there's been a loss of wetlands upstream or what.

Lake Michigan gets higher each year too. Our beaches are all much narrower than they used to be, and some have had to close completely.

It's raining. The headlines here were all about how we will get a month's worth of rain in a day. Which would be impressive except they meant the month of May, when we rarely get more than a day of rain in the first place.

So how was the month's worth of rain? Life-changing?

Damp. :D

We did get a day of healthy rain, which is rare in May and another day of intermittent drizzle. There's more on the way, but nothing like the deluge it would be if we had gotten a month of even March rain in a day.

In case it makes the news, the tornadoes just missed me. It was very close, though! More later. I need to sleep. Surgery in the early a.m.

Gallbladder. I do not like being a patient at all. Just saying!

There was another tornado right after I posted that I was okay. Obviously, I'm still okay. So far, everyone I know is okay too.

We ended up having 8 tornadoes in this area, 3 of which were quite close to here and were F3s! There's been one reported fatality and, of course, many injuries but mostly minor. Sheesh! I'll try to post some footage tomorrow.

Here's one of our local meteorologists losing his shit over people whining about him interrupting The Bachelorette show. I think he was spot on. We had a very dangerous situation the other night, at least 9 tornadoes going on all about the same time.

He was right to be so angry.

Meanwhile, we had funnel clouds of our own in East Ottawa today. I didn't see them, though.
