Anth - I think the T-shirt spiffy to the extreme as well ;)

And now ...

Like all good things, Faramond's visit here had to end.

I came back from driving him to the airport and saying goodbye to him about half an hour ago. I am posting this update to keep me occupied for a little while. I'll spare you the soggy details of the preceding 30 minutes ... :( :( :( :(

Here then, a few more pictures. All of these pictures was taken at the southernmost tip of Africa, Cape Agullas. It was a moody sort of day - stormy at times, sun breaking through at others.

Perfect weather for visiting a continent's endpoint.

Faramond standing at the southenmost point of Africa.

The southern coastline - rough and jagged, having withstood the pounding of the southern oceans for ... quite a while :)

[ img ]

The coastline, picture taken from a little inland - windswept and rough.

[ img ]

Moody skies. The clouds hanging low over a silver ocean preparing to break surf on solid earth.

The lighthouse at Cape Agullas.

An exceedingly beautiful e.e. cummings poem for you both:

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look will easily unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously)her first rose

or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;
nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility:whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

Sorry.

But I put myself in Griffy's place and I would draw a kind of solace from the immensity of those feelings.

Just kidding, Sass.

I completely see what you are saying. When I'm deeply sad I seek out poems like that, and it is strangely comforting.

But all the same, my heart aches for those two.

It's over, already? :( How the time flies - and, not least, for the two of you... :bawl:

But, hope you'll get a chance to meet again soon...

And, great pictures!

Wow, those weeks went by quickly...too quickly, huh Griff? I wish I could give you advice on how to cope with this but I don't think there really is any. Of course be sure to keep on chatting on IM, invest in some webcams (they really do help), keep up with the phone calls, send each other things through snail mail...the time will pass....sometimes very slowly. But just know you'll be together again and that you have someone out there who loves you very much.

Definately. I was lucky and got to start planning my next meeting with Iavas about a week or two after he left. We only had two months of separation...but the next one was 5 months long. Not nearly as bad as what you and your hobbit have had to endure though.

thats one of the things that have made it easier this time. When I left england the thought of an entire year seemed horrible. forever. but I kept reminding myself that that would be the last time we would be apart for that long. that if we made that then it was all cake from there. Here we are, almost time now, so yea.

I saw my husband twice in the year before our wedding, so I understand, too. And this was before Web cams—before email, in fact. I have a shoe box full of letters, and my phone bill for that year of college was probably higher than my tuition (long distance was expensive back then!).

It worked out, but it was definitely not easy on either of us. And it was a little strange to marry this person I had hardly seen in so long! But we were too happy to worry about it. Faith manages. :)

Aw Griffy (((((HUGS)))))....

beautiful pictures, and Im glad you two had such a LOVELY (and picture-documented :D) time...

I know all about the terrible separation blues... Eru and gimli say it best - start planning and looking forward to the next meeting. Besides that of course keep in touch in all ways possible, but talking about the next time to be together and starting as soon as you separate to plan/work towards that is what keeps me at least semi-sane and functional...

Thanks for sharing this wonderful time of your life with us via posts and photos!

As others have said, hang on and look forward to that next meeting.

I don't know why ... it makes me sad ...

Well, actually, I do know why: leaving sucks! :bawl:

Griff and Faramond, please post here often to collect your electronic hugs. We'll be sending them your way for as long as you need them.

Even with the inevitable sadness, I think you guys are blessed. Just remember:
Quote:
Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away.

Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping

Don't say
We have come now to the end.
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again.

And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping.
That song can mean a lot of different things.

 :bawl:

My feelings exactly!

When I stop to think what a miracle it is that the two of you have found each other and met at all, with all the oceans between you, I feel sure that things will work out, somehow.
