Why can't we focus our brains and energy on the constitution, as without it, the opening of the boards is hypothetical anyway?

Gimli, I hear your concern about delays, but if you say you won't wait that long, there are other people who will say that they won't go there that quickly....

Maybe it's the fact that I am living in a direct democracy where almost everything is voted all the time and moreover am member of the linguistic minority - but it's all a question of compromise. Maybe the opening will be later than you want, but earlier than Din would want it... you both will have to live with it.

(Din, I picked your name by random, because it's short to type)

If you want a poll, our resident godess Jnyusa has made for me the only valuable proposal with yes or no option. The only reason I see for it is to reassure people like me or Ethel or you, who are anxious and impatient. I surely am, but Switzerland has taught me patience...

yes but I didnt want any poll to begin with. I just wanted to talk and here people's opinions.. How less impatient can I be? If i demanded action right now I wouldnt be calling for discussion... thats all I want.. just to talk about it.. to hear others thoughts... if we must have a poll, then I dont see what was so wrong with my poll idea.. people seem to think these polls mean something.. they dont.. they are nonbinding.. they are simply to see what people think. A far more useful poll in my opinion is one that gives us an idea of what people are thinking time wise.. not just one that says yes someday or no never... if we are trying to do an official poll then i agree, to many choices is not ideal, it would make it too hard to get a majority on anything.. but this isnt official.. we arent using it to decide anything. all we are asking is what people think.. do you want to open or not and if so how long is your ideal waiting period... it would give us far more info than a simple yes no. I'm not going to leave if 75 people all say 6 months.... things change with time and so do peoples opinions. but it would at least let us know what we are dealing with....

maybe I am not explaining myself very well because for some reason people are attributing ideas to me that I never said or ignoring things i did say.

Where is Rodia when Gimli needs a hug?

Believe me I find this equally frustrating - but look, people discuss.... and look how many say open.

And get your speedo over to the constitution, get the hobbit online, have hope!!!!!

(I'm hopeless with dwarves)

oh im fine dont worry.. Im not about to walk out or anything.. if anything this thread has made me much more optimistic about it all. :) I just want to make sure we continue with the discussion. in my opinion it seems to be helping.. everyone is getting an idea of what others want and so forth... I may get frustrated and a bit short in here, i apologize for that.. but its just business. doesnt have anything to do with what I think about you all personaly.

oh and rodia is safely with in texting range ;)

I asked DaMuzikMan about the Latin thing - he's taken it for four years now.

"Minor" is the opposite of "major". The opposite of "magnus" is "parvus".

So it should be "Magna Parva."

Thus spake the Latin Pedant.

Shouldn't it be "Parva Carta"? Carta being charter?

Parva Carta sounds like a small, annoyingly high-pitched European automobile, or one of those Italian salads with olive pits in it. Alas, we are not progressing. :scratch

Parva Carta - small charter
Minor Carta - smaller charter
Minima Carta - smallest charter

:D

I don't like any of those names, do you?

Maybe what we need the Latin for "Even Bigger Charter." :D

I mean, why sell ourselves short?

Magna Carta - big charter
Major Carta - bigger charter
Maxima Carta - biggest charter

isn't Major Carta a character on Stargate SG-1?

Major Carta is one of those old-style British Army officers in kneepants who carries a quirt and says "Harrrumph!"

Maxima Carta is Vin Diesel's next movie role.

Still not progressing. :scratch

I still say that it should be "The Dirt and Wires of board77".

I like the metaphorical quality of Dirt and Wires. My only objection to it is that it is derived from Ted's infamous parable. I would hate to be explaining that to newcomers years down the road. (Of course we're going to be here years from now!)

Parva Carta is cute but... maybe a little too cute?

As always, I admire gimli's terse eloquence but find it not quite the thing for a document we want people to respect.

What about borrowing a name from our common roots? Could we call it the Red Book? (Heaven knows Jn has used enough red text in prodding us to do our duty! :D) I know the Red Book of the Shire was a book of lore rather than an administrative charter, but it was also a reference book for things like the calendar and geneologies was it not?

Too true! :D

Why was the Red Book called the Red Book of Westmarch? I don't recall reading it explained anywhere that Hobbiton was in a part of the Shire called Westmarch, and Frodo finished it in Hobbiton, didn't he?
