I just got The Last Hero the other day, too! Am 2/3 of the way through now.
The artwork is faabulous, as is the book itself. I love Ponder Stibbons. I think he's my favourite wizard. Vetinari is definitely one of my favourite characters, too.
(And I *finally* understand where "Actually I am a Rocket Wizard" comes from, though I still don't think I'll have a good answer when people ask. :P )

I took the stars from my eyes, and then I made a map, And knew that somehow I could find my way back; Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too - So I stayed in the darkness with you

I've just finished reading Thud!

After the way this year has turned out: this felt like the right book to be reading at Yuletide. With its themes of Reconciliation and the putting aside of prejudices and weight of legends.

Stories about the city watch are always fun to read, and this one did not disappoint. :) The thought of one of the Deep dwarves being the decendant of one of the Dwarves out of "Snow White" tickled my funny bone somewhat.

Yay for Pratchett!

I think Last Hero is my favourite Rincewind book so far. The only way it could possibly be better is if it had the Luggage.

The Luggage is easily one of Pratchett's best creations, along with Death and the Nac Mac Feegle (Crivens!).

Yeah, Death is my favourite character. He's so . . . dry, you know? Sardonic, maybe.

Haven't gotten to Thud yet. :( But soon! Hopefully.

TM, nice title. :D

Favourite so far has to be Nightwatch

Like all good comedies it knows when to pull the rug out from under you and hit you with real emotion. Magic.

I love Night Watch. For a long time TLC was my favorite, probably because it was the first one I read and also one of the most lighthearted, but these days it's probably NW. I love everything about that book, right down to the cover art. :)

And hilarious. :P Loved the image of him in Mort when on his break...working as a fry cook, surrounded by kittens. :D

Death's fondness for cats never ceases to amuse me. I love the quote from "Sourcery":
Quote:
"I meant," said Iplsore bitterly, "what is there in this world that makes living worthwhile?"
Death thought about it.
"CATS," he said eventually, "CATS ARE NICE."
:D

Which reminds me (Rune's post, that is, not the bit from Sourcery) that I really need to read Mort.

Alatar, Nightwatch isn't my absolutely favourite, but it's up there for exactly that reason. It was one of those things that made me want to just curl up in a corner and cry. [/quote]

Oooh, you haven't read it? You must! You must! :D

Plenty of amusing times with DEATH. ;)

Sad, innit? It will happen, though! After WorldCon two years ago, I went for about six months reading nothing but Terry Pratchett. I think there were about five of his books that I didn't read, and of course, that was one of them. Will head down to the library tomorrow.

Death is awesome... And don't forget the Grim Squeaker...;)

In three weeks I've bought and gotten Going Postal (awesome), The Truth (awesome), Thud! (awesome) and The Last Hero (awesome).

So my Discworld hunger this year has been saturated. :D:D

Favorite book so far? Definitely Going Postal. Moist von Lipwig is one of the best stand-alone characters and the story is just the best. So read that!!.

Read this...read that...read everything. :P

SQUEAK.

And so it's been saturated for this year, eh? Well this year is almost over. :P

Well did you? :D

Still plodding along in Hogfather myself.

Must take a break from it if I don't finish it soon, though, to start a book for my English class.

I've read them all, now. Except A Hatful of Sky, which I can't find anywhere. :bawl:

And NightWatch is probably my favourite too. Anything with Vimes in it, really. Vimes is one of the most fascinating, developed, complete characters I've read in any genre of literature.

No.

But I will soon! I promise.

I'm also reading Hogfather. Seemed appropriate. :D
Started Maskerade, too. I don't like toting my copy of Hogfather around, and I needed something to read on the T.

SQUEAK. I love the Grim Squeaker. He's awesome.

Melly, I agree. Vimes is one of my favourite human characters (ie, other than Death, the Grim Squeaker, and the Lugagge. I enjoy Vetinari as well.)

Finished the Last Hero recently. GREAT book as well. Especially the spoof illustration that's based on the painting of God and Adam (? .. not entirely sure) touching eachother's fingers, is just so awesome... :D:D
