And honestly, honestly, I somehow have this crazy little bit of hope that somehow you care a bit for some here, even a bit for me and that sometimes this could make the difference between silence and words.
Nin, of all of the things I have read on messageboards, this is perhaps the most thoughtful, caring, insightful, and honest words I have ever read. I am humbled by these words and I hope that everyone here can take their true meaning to heart. Thank you for that. :hug:

And while I am at it, I want to also thank Anthy just for being her sweet self and acknowledge the effort it takes her to post her thoughts, knowing how hard it is for her. I am genuinely amazed with what she comes up with and how clearly she sees. And from an introvert, to me this is especially amazing. Please continue to share yourself with us.
Just sayin' is all. :love:
And I have to reiterate what Anthy said. Where would I be without the Sassy One? A rough in the diamond if I ever saw one. :)

As to why we can't all get along....
The best and simplest answer I can come up with is....because.
I have never seen it happen and I never expect to see it happen.
But heck, I have made a few friends, and who could complain about that?

edit:
There are obviously many more names I could add to this list. Just because your name is not listed here, doesn't mean I don't feel the same way. That goes especially for those that aren't here.

What is that nurse doing in your picture and why do I think there's a subtext that I'm not getting? Hm?

Jny thanks a million. :)
And that isn't a nurse. That is a waitress at a coffee shop. This is donuts and trebuchet month after all.

Don't answer that!

Din, I really, really appreciate that you've responded. I doubt it was an easy thing to do, to say all that publicly.

Thank you. :)

Aha! Wearing a cute little hat. It's been about forty years since I've seen a waitress dressed like that.

Here are updated percentages as we enter the homestretch on this vote:

1. As soon as the charter provisions regarding the admins are ratified;
23% [ 14 ]
2. As soon as the charter provisions regarding dispute resolution are ratified;
27% [ 17 ]
3. As soon as the charter provisions regarding members rights and responsibilities are ratified;
61% [ 38 ]
4. As soon as the charter provisions regarding the mission statement, purpose and goals are ratified;
77% [ 48 ]
5. As soon as the charter provisions regarding the office of the Mayor are ratified;
81% [ 50 ]

6. As soon as the charter provisions regarding the ownership of the board are ratified;
94% [ 58 ]

7. I do not want board77 to open in the foreseeable future.
6% [ 4 ]

I also want to thank Din for speaking up. I know how hard that can be, when one is part of a very small minority. And while I am interested (and happy) to see that such a large majority is in favor of opening at the latest when the charter is finished, that in no way diminishes the importance or validity of the opinion of those who are wary of doing so. I think it is particularly important that we take those opinions into account and try our best to preserve what makes board77 special to these people as much as to anyone else. We can't do that if we don't know what those opinions are.

So thank you Din. :) And you better not leave.

Din, there are people on TORC, as well as on most of the other boards I frequent, that I'd rather not to talk with. And, I'm sure there are people on those boards who would rather not to talk with me. (Actually, I'm sure that there might be some on this board too.)

But, most probably, those people would come here and check what it's all about, but not stay for long - this isn't their kind of place. And, as the others (Nin?) said above, they wouldn't be above the others here - and, the peer control would most certainly keep them at bay.

It's just that, nobody can get along with everybody, on messageboards as well as in real life. In real life, I just minimize the contacts with people I don't like but have to meet, for whatever reason - and, the same goes for Internet messageboards.

But, it's good that you spoke your mind; here, thank goodness, we can do that.

(And, FYI, I already voted a few days ago, just didn't want to spam the boards just to announce it. :P )

Seriuosly, though, I hope that the other three people who don't want to open the board will speak up as well. If somebody is that concerned about the open board, I think it would help us all to listen to their concerns and possibly give a bit of thought to how potential problems might be handled.

Does the last one mean we can't round up number 5 to 80%? :(

It seems a pity, as number six is way beyond 80% - of course that means we'd have an even larger majority behind it.

Let's drag some people to the poll! ;)

Hobby, I've struggled with that question, but I just don't see how we could justify rounding anything less then 79.5% to 80%.

Here are the current numbers, at 67 votes, with just about six hours to go:

4. As soon as the charter provisions regarding the mission statement, purpose and goals are ratified; 76.12% [51]

5. As soon as the charter provisions regarding the office of the Mayor are ratified; 79.10% [ 53 ]

6. As soon as the charter provisions regarding the ownership of the board are ratified; 94.03% [ 63 ]

I could just as easily justify calling No. 4, the choice, as No. 5, particularly since only 2 people actually have chosen No. 5. But only No. 6 clearly reaches the level that we declared would be a consensus, and I would be reluctant to make any other designation.

But maybe a few more will vote before the end and it will become a moot point. :)

Well, I sent a mail to some friends - I guess most of them voted already, but you never know - just a little friendly bugging. :whistle:
