It's so pretty!

(Actually, my first reaction was "SHINY!" But it's not. It's only metaphorically shiny.)

Not sure yet if this is accurate, but it's worth noting that most of the UK sites (Amazon, HMV, Play) have it listed as November 28th....maybe you guys get it first?

I was off by about ten minutes. A pleasant suprise...I'm going to guess a great deal of that is just from the music being too quiet to hear in some parts of the film (or short bits being dialed out altogether, which I think happened at the Prancing Pony after Frodo puts on the Ring) so I didn't pick it up...

:D

Soundtrack.net's latest podcast includes part of Passing Of The Elves. He talks over part of it , but still quite exciting to hear sans sound effects. :D

Two tidbits today:
FSM's Podcast has 30 seconds from the Watcher In The Water cue. (it's at the very end, after the lengthy discussion of the HP:GOF score)

Thrilling stuff.

ceefour posted this at TORC:
Quote:
During the interview that aired on XM Radio's Cinemagic channel last week, Howard Shore stated FOTR would be 3 CDs and 1 DVD-A. He also said (if I understood corrcetly) TTT would be 4 CDs and a DVD-A. He considers the EEs to be the "definitive film versions," and was excited about the DVD-As because that was how the music was meant to be heard.

Flaming Red Hair?
That's the name of the source music that plays during the long expected party. Presumably given to it by "Plan 9" (who performed both this, and the passing of the elves...). I'd link to their website, but it seems to have gone offline. ;)

Ok, I’m traipsing dangerously close to icky self-promotional territory, but you can also hear a bit of previously unreleased music on this week’s FSM Podcast. And next week’s Podcast will entirely dedicated to the boxed set… and I’d venture to guess you’ll be able to hear some more unreleased stuff at that time!

Less than two weeks now, and you’ll finally get to see what’s been cooking all these years!

TTBK, I realise that your main interest is in the orchestrations and cuts and as such, your "coverage" represents that, but can you tell me a little about the liner notes or booklet? As you know, the lyrics in the Standard soundtracks bear very little resemblance to what's actually on the tracks. Will the new packaging address the lyrics for the choral sections and the soloists?

Cheers,
Alatar

Sure. :)

As I understand it, the lyrics should be there, that's pretty much been stated from day one. It's also going to include thematic analyis from Doug Adams, and also as we've already seen, printed themes.

That's all I know at the moment....give me a week, and I'm sure I'll be able to tell you much more. :D :D :D

For those curious....

The fourth disc appears to be a hybrid.

If you have a regular DVD player, you can listen to the complete score in Dolby Digital 2.0 (224kbps), or Dolby Digital 5.1 (448kbps).

If you have a DVD-Audio compatible player, you can listen to it in High Resolution Stereo (PCM2.0 48k/24-bit) or High Resolution Surround Sound (PCM5.1 48k/24-bit).
