Missed a lot here yesterday I realise.

I'm very disappointed that Monday should not be considered our official opening. :(

Sure, the great party is on the sixth. But why can't we declare the board officially open on Monday?

And although I definitely would not e-mail people I don't know (as that would be spamming), everybody knows how I feel about letting information trickle down by word of mouth. ;)

Edit: read up a bit more carefully.

See if I get that right:
- we'll have a welcome thread up in Info on Monday
- forums can start their own celebrations on Monday
- there will be an announcement about being open on the frontpage on - Monday?

So - what do we do for the great party on the sixth?

To sum it up: we let people in freely on Monday, so that's the official opening and I think we should make sure they are made welcome from the start. Let's not make it seem we are just letting them in early, but can't really be bothered to welcome them just yet!

I don't understand at all what the event on the 6th is going to be about.

(And what are you planning that includes the oldbies, Jny?)

GMT doesn't go forward or back an hour during the year.

From Spring to Autumn, as in now:
West Coast USA GMT-7
East Coast USA GMT-4
UK GMT+1
Central Europe GMT+2

From Autumn to Spring:
West Coast USA GMT-8
East Coast USA GMT-5
UK GMT
Central Europe GMT+1

So you may want to rethink those times.

Well, whatever Pip and Mossy want to set is OK with me. Anything between 18:00 and 21:00 GMT is still middle of the afternoon for me and I'm fine with that. So Alandriel's schedule should prevail.

Thanks, Lidless! That was quite helpful.

All right then. Shall we say 20:00 GMT? Which is 21:00 in the UK, and 16:00 EST (I think).

I'm leaving really early tomorrow morning for Florida, and I don't know if I'll have internet there. I'll edit the first post of the Welcome thread tonight in case I don't get another chance, as I'm not sure what time I get home on Sunday.

ETA: Would someone go check the thread in Welcome? I really have no idea what to write, and could probably use some suggestions. . .

Yeah, Florida. My cousin is getting bat mitzahed apparently.

*goes to check PM*

Speaking of PMs, if anyone has suggestions, please PM me! I'll do my best to get online this weekend.

To help with those tricky 'if it's midday here it must be 3am there' issues:

world clock

You can set up a personalised version showing just those cities you need to refer to most, eg, New York, LA, London, Cologne and, of course, Sydney! (Plus! it makes allowances for daylight saving.)

I'd like to add my thanks for the hard work everyone has put in to reach this point. :)

Is the official opening party on the 6th going to be light RP, like the TALKies Awards celebration, complete with famous people (our friends) arriving on the red carpet?

That's what we were thinking. Something like the awards, and the instead of presenting awards, we'd have a kind of ribbon cutting ceremony, with various speeches, etc. Does that sound good to everyone?

Alas indeed! :Q

I'll do some heckling for you. . . .

Anyway, the party will probably just be getting rolling at that point.

Now, that's a good idea! :D

Above I had been wondering what would still be left to do for a grand party on the 6th, if we don't skimp on being welcoming to those who register between Monday and then, but didn't get an answer - I think that answers it quite well, thanks, laureanna! :)

I'm just popping in to sulk publicly because I'll be out of town without computer access for the entire opening, official and unofficial.

:( :( :( :( :(

I'll just have to look forward to the 10th anniversary party. :)
