I've decided to get it tomorrow morning. I was out on a bike ride whenever they started to give out the bracelets...I don't know how long I'd ahve to wait if I went now. I don't think I'm up to staying up so late...so tomorrow morning it will be.

5:47 PM PST...dear goodness, some of you will have read the *entire* thing before they even start selling us the book. ARGH.

I love California, I really do. Favorite state ever. But it's IN THE WRONG TIME ZONE. Grrr.

Looks like I'll be the last one to get my book! :P In a way I want it right now, but I'm sooooooooooooo sleepy I wouldn't have been able to read any of it. I'll enjoy it more this way. :) Just hope the threads discussing it won't be too long! :help:

Rodia talked me into going to the midnight sale... so I have my copy sitting seductively on my nightstand...

I shall prevail, for I have a long day of work tomorrow!

Poor Eru!

I finished HBP half an hour ago (took me a little under seven hours). It's undeniably good, although I'm sure what to say yet. I don't think it's as good as PoA.

It did nearly make me cry though.

I have no idea what the movie made from this book is going to be rated. I would not be inclined to let an eight-year-old read it.

Other comments [very vauge spoilers]:

-It was everything OotP should have been.

-I have no idea how the wizarding world is going to get itself out of this one.

-I never expected to hear a character call another character a slut in a Harry Potter book.

I hope to have a spoiler-free review up sometime soon.

New York Times review

Interesting, though I could have done without the inclusion of LotR as "a great classic of children's literature" .

'Darkest and most unsettling yet' sounds about right.

Here's my comments from the hippo thread:

I didn't think that it was up to PoA, and it might not even win out over GoF, but it certainly comes third at least. It is even more dark and horrifying than I expected; it's hard to imagine the same author who wrote dangers like the flying keys into P/SS and who has only killed one major good guy so far could scenes of deranged Death Eaters tearing around with the blood of their victims dripping from their mouths or creatures hideous enough to rival the dementors. It has a nice, exciting and tight plot and reveals a lot of info, but it certainly gets a bit heavy at times. I give it the thumbs-up for now though - it started strong and had a strong second half.

Sad ending though.

I plan on hanging out at Borders for the next week or two and read it on one of those chairs they have until I can buy the paperback. Like I did with Order of the Phoenix.

That's just sad, Marty.

Actually, I could see myself doing that if there was a bookstore like that near me.

Got mine, at 12:12 PST. Am home 14 mins later and ready to read. Not sure if I will be all-nightering this one as I have a commitment to be at 8:30 AM tomorrow morning - I'll be so fucking dead tomorrow if I'm up all night. I'm actually strangely tired tonight, after going out drinking last night, I had a hangover this morning and I don't think I'm up for an all nighter. That said, once I start (which I'm about to do) I will not trust myself to stop until I finish. Looks like it'll be a venti caramel macchiato tomorrow morning...

Only a small Barnes & Nobles, but no nice chairs or anything to sit and read in.

People here in LA practically camp out at those stores.

Dang. Well, that's one of the reasons I'm going to try to move closer to Philly, only one bookstore and a WalMart just isn't all that awesome.

Where (and when) will we able to start discussing spoilers? Not that I'm aware of anyone to discuss them with yet...

Why not just start a new thread? Label it as spoiler-filled, and people can just go in as they read it.
