I've cried a thousand oceans, and I would cry a thousand more if that's what it takes to sail you home.

Chantal!! I remember when she first came out. I kept writing her down in school projects as my favorite female musician and people made fun of me cuz they couldn't pronounce her last name. The late 90's were so fun, though. I finally experimented with my own musical tastes and still love a lot of that stuff now, even if occasionally for the lulz. This is the song that cemented my love for Chantal, it was so different from what I was raised on:

Also, she performed a slowed down, acoustic version of it on Much Music, which even got my dad's attention and he hates everything that isn't from his youth.

I finally got to see her on concert last November.

Every Time by Janet Jackson just came on. The Velvet Rope album was from ~the day~ so I uploaded it a few weeks ago.

*E*, yes, the Gordon Lightfoot version. And, no, I've never heard of the Thunder Child song. I did like the song you linked to at the end of your post.

yovi, thanks! Guess the song made me feel nostalgic.

"Beautiful" was the first song at my parents' wedding. :D

I like "The Great Canadian Railroad Trilogy" best though!

Here's the album's wiki: link and its official website:

It is probably in my top five albums of all time, I can't recommend it enough to anyone. But it's very upsetting. I guess like if you watched an hour's worth of Amon Hen scenes. They're epic and brilliant with real moments of triumph, but you also experience loss and wonder if anyone will make it out alive. Definitely an emotional investment, imo. Sure it's a 150-year-old story about alien invasion, but Richard Burton classes it up with the narration and Justin Hayward from Moody Blues does a couple songs. Plus, I was used to playing it on vinyl, so the artwork included was gigantic and frightening. :uhoh: Example: duuuuude...

"Forever Autumn" is the big hit single, but I'm embedding "The Eve of the War", the opening number, because it is kick-ass. I get mad chills soon as the orchestra starts in.

I know, lol @ the 70's. ;) But I think it fits really well with the crazy sci-fi aspects, especially the aliens' war-cry.

Now I'm all salivating to play this stuff again. Will go with the live filmed version though, to concentrate on pyrotechnics instead of poor Thunder Child. :blackeye:

I like Chantel Krevi..at..zuck, whatever... She is good, but to be honest, the most talent she's ever had in her was Raine Maida...

When I was at Jude's the other day I told him to look up Pavarotti's version of the opera song Caruso. Early(er) in his career he did a hauntingly beautiful and powerful version of the song. Didn't find that particular version on yootoob but we did find another. Then in the sidebar it had a version of Lara Fabian singing Caruso and I prepared myself for what I figured would be a lacking version, boy was I wrong.

I'm currently listening to:

To those not following, I kinda like some weird music. Exhibit Q:

(It's a random fan vid for this song.)

I like music that surprises me and does the unexpected. While still being beautiful. :)

I've been trying out some Oasis this year because 'Where Did It All Go Wrong' and 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' appeared on mix tapes I enjoyed. The latter in particular got to me because the tape's theme was dedicated to a lost pet. Growing up in the 90's, yeah everyone knows Wonderwall and stuff, so I hoped to find new favorites among their biggest albums. :)

'Lyla' is playing atm.

I took the stars from my eyes, and then I made a map, And knew that somehow I could find my way back; Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too - So I stayed in the darkness with you

Soon you will see

You're only sleeping

Yov just listened to that Sufjan you posted *sigh* he is so lovely. It makes me want to go through my CD collection and have a listen since most of my sweet babies aren't on my iPod.

I am most infactuated with Florence + the Machine (as is most everyone these days), but I just can't help it. The lady has a beautiful voice it's like Sarah, Annie, and Fiona all at once.

I heard this and just had to post it!

My hole, I'll get my hole, I'll get my hole
Get my hole, get my hole and I'll find out more.
It's a choo-choo train, a rocket launch
If we have a hormone race
i'm bound to finish first.

Can you see in the dark?
Can you see the look on your face?
The flashing white light's been turned off,
You don't know know who's in your bed.

It takes more than fucking someone you don't know to keep warm.
Do you really think that for a house-beat you'll find your love in a hole?

Oh, you won't find love in a,
Won't find love in a hole.
It takes more than fucking someone to keep yourself warm.

I'm drunk, I'm drunk
And you're probably on pills
If we've both got the same diseases
It's irrelevant girl
And the room fills with steam
Oh, evaporates disappears
My point of entry is the same way
That I leave

Can you see in the dark?
Can you see the look on your face?
The flashing white light's been turned off
You don't know know who's in your bed.

It takes more than fucking someone you don't know to keep warm.
Do you really think that for a house-beat you'll find your love in a hole?

But, you won't find love in a, won't find love in a hole.
It takes more than fucking someone to keep yourself warm.

You won't find love in a, won't find love in a hole.
It takes more than fucking someone to keep yourself-
SEE in the dark!
Can you see the look in your face?
The flashing white light's been turned off
You don't know know who's in your bed.

It takes more than fucking someone you don't know
to keep warm
Do you really think that for a house-beat you'll find your love in a hole?

10 songs I loved from 2010

I've been trying to listen to older music more this year so I didn't listen to as much new music this year is I normally do. Still, there were plenty of songs that caught my attention. This is not an attempted "best of" or any sort of ranking - just 10 songs I loved from 2010. In no particular order:

1 The Books throw Simon & Garfunkel into a blender in the heady Beautiful People:

2 Liars give you whiplash in the thrasher-hymn Scissor:

3 Gauntlet Hair make a cavernous racket on the anthemic I Was Thinking:

4 LCD Soundsystem make growing old sound grand and dance-y on All I Want:

5 The National make growing old sound tense and brood-y on I'm Afraid Of Everyone:

6 Sam Amidon adds modern dread to the ominous traditional folk song How Come That Blood:

7 PS I Love You love to shred your face off on Facelove:

8 Titus Andronicus scream rebellion on the boozy shout-along Four Score And Seven (Part 2) :

9 Baths gives you a warm embrace in the woozy Hall:

10 Shearwater pound away at elegant melodrama in Castaways:

Our last few Christmases have largely involved the passing around of skyscrapers worth of DVDs, so to avoid burnout and allow for proper absorption of its plot, I asked my parents to watch Inception with me tonight. It was my number one gift request, so I'm pretty sure I got it, :P but mom's a stickler for hints so we just went with the pay-per-view version heh.

Freshly re-planted in my brain...

Most of the score demands a meeting of the Subwoofer Club, but there's a secondary theme used when focusing on the main character's tragic relationship with his wife. It sort of acts as his soul, since there's a bittersweet or creepy feel to the music depending on which memories we're seeing. The finale keeps that foundation, but replaces his demons with enlightenment and redemption. Speaking of which, Inception has the most satisfying conclusion to any story I've seen since The Shawshank Redemption, and equally well-served by its music.

Currently, Shearwater - Castaways, from yov's video link up there, cause it was also one of my favorite songs of this year. :D

Glad to see The National up there too yov, though I wouldn't have picked that particular song myself.

And I know it's been months and he probably won't even see this post, but Alatar! I adore Frightened Rabbit, one of my favorite bands. :D Always happy to see them getting some love.
