If anyone wants to help me get a job, please do. Hell, it doesn't matter if you're in a different country because you'd still probably do bloody better than I am ;).

I've just spent HOURS filling out application forms, printing and folding CV's and covering letters, and stuffing them into envelopes.

On top of all the stamps I licked yesterday, licking 30 envelopes today has nearly worn away my tongue. It's like I've eaten a desert or something.

Looks like I wont be licking anything in the near future.

...Pause...

Not that I would have anything to anyway .

This is Satch-with-no-sex-life, signing out. And back to the studio!

Can't help, I'm afraid, but you've just leaned business lesson #1: Licking is an essential part of getting promoted.

I can't help either.

My income during sixth form came from babysitting - I had a couple of really well-paying families, who for some stupid reason trusted me to look after their toddlers. The downside is that it ruins your social life, losing every Friday and Saturday night to the pleasures of nappy changing.

Have you tried just walking into every local restaurant, cafe, hotel, shop etc and asking if they need staff. Even if all you can get is dish-washing or sheet changing it's better than nothing.

Unfortunately I already have an au-pair...

You sound like selling ice-cream might be a job you'd want today. ;)

Make X-mas cookies (let your mother buy the ingredients...) and sell them from door to door in nice little packages - one or two days before X-mas... it will serve for all those people who did not have the time for a gift for aunt Augusta, so that they can say with a smile - "look my precious I made cookies (or if you dare: home-made truffles....) nothing but for you". (while the rest of the family tries to ignore the sound of the sofa, soon breaking down under aunt Augusta, for whom everbody made cookies ;))

... the 'bab'y -sitting position (not that much a baby) is still available Satch - complete with access to TV and DVD player

- mind you, it would probably only turn out to be once or twice a month :Q , but still

Steve, you overestimate what Satch' brain is capable of. She has trouble enough opening a lock for which she actually has the key.

Of course, alcohol can drive a human to do extraordinary feats...

hmmm... trouble is - we don't have a drinks cabinet, only the odd bottle of wine in the kitchen (but she won't find the openers LOL). Other than that - trust me, she would not want to partake of hubby's scotch :Q

... does that mean in order for me to secure her I would need to get one?
:Q

And sorry Jae - jet-setting you in for babysitting is just a tad beyond my scope

Those who know me know that I have difficulties to distinguish between "in" and "on". I blame a mother tongue that doesn't differentiate between those two.

Anyway, ask satch or anyone who came to the minimoot at my place about Teh Sofa... it sits 6, and 2 people slept on it... one of which was wilko :Q So it's quite... ample ;)

But you're right, I curl up ON it.

Ber - what's your mother tongue, again? My mother tongue also blurs the line between on, in, at, and is and are? We just say is! I often say "the >plural< is" if I don't concentrate

Griff, I'm Spanish, and we just have one word for in, on, at = en.

OTOH, we have two verbs for "to be" = "ser" and "estar". Roughly, you use "ser" when you say what you are, and "estar" to describe what you are doing:
Quote:
Soy estudiante (ser) = I am a student
Estoy estudiando (estar) = I am studying
They make life complicated for poor students of Spanish...
