Thank you for clarifying that Iavas. I apologize for the verbal bitchslap

This doesn't mean they're all that shocking
They're obviously more shocking than the last torture photos. I'd say rape, for example, is pretty shocking.

Boat owners say they were fearful during Coast Guard search
Quote:
One resident, who asked not to be identified for fear or retribution, said his experience was "very intimidating, very frightening."

"To me it reeks of Nazi Germany and the death squads in Argentina," he said. "I don't want my name on their list."

EDITED BEGINNING.

Boating in US waters has required certain things for decades. There are a few layers of local, state, and federal laws that apply to boaters all over the country. Thousands of boardings are conducted every year, have been for many years...and many years before 9-11. When the Coast Guard was under the Department of Transportation, when there was no Patriot act, there were thousands of boardings conducted each year...with weapons. The mandate to consentually board vessels for random safety inspections is old news, old law, as is the power to forcibly board vessels for probable cause.

And we have a Nazi comparison too, how original  I don't know if these people just bought their boats or what, but it's really not a big surprise to be boarded. The one guy claims he let the team search his boat because he thought they needed to talk to him about a case? Talking over the rail just wouldn't cut it? Sounds like his own dumb fault to me.

I grew up on Puget Sound in Washington where even most blue-collar families owned a boat, and may I say that the Coast Guard was held in high regard. We obeyed the rules because it was right, but those guys were there to make sure we didn't screw up.

I have nothing but the deepest respect for the Coast Guard. I have seen them save people's lives with my own eyes. You don't jump from a helicopter into storm surf to save some idiot if you are not completely dedicated and selfless. And highly trained and professional, which is why I saw those idiots pulled out of the surf alive.

Well, that's it.

Iavas should know the first rule of internet posting: when somebody mentions Hitler or the Nazis, the discussion was gone hopelessly cockeyed and needs to be put out of its misery.

The link. Godwin's law never fails. At least, it never did on Usenet.

Weird. Try again: LINK

Nope. Very weird.

So I'm not allowed to mention that Bush's grandfather was involved in funding the Nazis, or that Governor Schwarzenneger hands out Nazi propaganda to his friends and dreams of ruling the world?

By the way, I'm not knocking the average coast guard trying to do his job, but the fact that the current (engineered) climate of fear and mistrust is making it seem necessary to be more forceful.

Probably because it doesn't start with www

Edit: Yes, it's the apostrophe.

Priceless page, though.

I put it in on the second try because that's worked sometimes in the past.

I'm glad to see it isn't just me.

Edit: I pasted the link straight from the URL box on the browser page.

It's the apostrophe.

It's the fault of wikipedia, they shouldn't have an apostrophe in their url. Older browsers won't be able to view the page at all.

Why is Hitler always the fall guy?

And why did Google give me a bad URL?

Ah, woe.

Despite being 116, it wouldn't surprise me to find there are some here who believe the CIA are still conducting medical and brain experiments on him without a trial.

Ah, but if we blame Hitler, are we not really blaming the conditions that allowed him to rise to power? That is, centuries of inculcated anti-Semitism combined with a vengeful Britain and France, and an isolationist US, after WWI? Not to mention the rise of Soviet Russia, which can be traced to post-Napoleonic reform failures in Russia, and thus to the French Revolution?

In other words:

It's all the Illuminati's fault.
