It was because of this attitude that I had to withdraw from all Charter matters because I was perceived as being The One (despite my parody to the contrary). <snip> As I posted last month, do you have any idea how difficult that was, not allowing oneself to be part of the process when it was of the utmost concern and touched my heart?
Liddy, I have to say that this really touched me. I'm sorry, bud.
How many friggin' times do I have to say that I have no power? If I have power, I order you to believe that I have none.
*starts to believe*
I am a poster like all others, just with an outlandish non-PC sense of humor. That's all. That's all I ever was and ever will be, I hope. That is not power. It's not even influence.
(emphasis mine)
And when I first saw this thread in BR, that is
exactly what I thought. That's Liddy being Liddy! Never saw a rule that didn't want a
little stretchin'.
For the record, it never occurred to me that that thread at this time in that place was meant as a mockery or to be disrespectful; not that others seeing it are crazy or anything, just that I never saw it that way.
Just looked like Liddy being Liddy, to me.
Of course, it turns out that not all posters are equal after all. The ones that carry more weight are those that just have a loud voice, stamping their feet until all the others back down for harmony's sake.
Well, harmony is a pretty cool goal. I certainly have backed down for harmony's sake, many times. Some would call me wimpy. Some probably have.
I just tend to avoid conflicts like this one, where people are getting all whipped up about nothing, really... y'know? This is a pretty cool bunch of people.
Unfortunately the time for easy fixes... say, just move the thread to Turf, where more people certainly would have enjoyed it, anyway... has probably already past. Now this thread has come to stand for something a lot more than it is, and moving it now would be symbolically different than moving it earlier would have been.
Am I the only one who likes this place and thinks it's great???
No.
I would suggest that we all think about how prejudiced we are towards the opinions of posters we dislike.
I know ya'll are going to think I'm Pollyanna here, but I really don't think that I can say there's anyone here I dislike. There are posters whose posts I tend to not read because I seldom agree with them, but I certainly don't
dislike them, not at all.
But I do get your point, Rodia. And I think it's a good one.
