Cerin you have the right to complain against a thread you find inappropriate, and I have a right to tell you and others to stop being so overly picky about a minor thing. Discretion is the better part of valor.
Nobody threatened anyone and nobody was tossing around insults in that thread. Because you decided to feel mocked by that thread you wanted to raise hell about it. How about turning the other cheek or looking away. Was anyone really hurt by that thread?
I said upfront I wouldn't have posted that nor would I prefer anyone else post it either. Doesn't mean all holy hell has to be raised either.

TH there are rules, and we do need them as a guideline. Not the be all or end all of our existence. And for the record, no rules were broken, so I ask what is all the fuss?

You think that the chess thread was inappropriate for the Bikeracks I don't think it was, why are you right and I'm wrong? No I'm not suggesting people shouldn't have said anything. But I am suggesting that people stop knit picking and choose their battles wisely.

Steve has no power in the perceived sense. He owns the domain of board77.com, but the messageboard is on a FREE site that phpbber.com owns. Is board77.com used for anything other than a small welcome page? <-- rhetorical.

Rodia, Thank you for that post. It made me stop and think, and question my own prejudices. I think it's one of the most useful posts anybody's made so far.

I'm with you. I still LIKE B77, despite the fact that it is far, far from perfect.

But nobody on this board will give an inch and see the other side. Everything has to be a major issue. We can't even hold a fun type of awards thing here because there will be whining and hurt feelings.
You can't step out of line or look the wrong way at someone. You can't be considerate of other people.
And I am being all inclusive with these statements.

After consideration....

I moved it to deleted storage. I understood the joke, and I thought it was funny, and I'm conflicted about deleting it for good. What a fucking drag.

For the record, it never occurred to me that that thread at this time in that place was meant as a mockery or to be disrespectful; not that others seeing it are crazy or anything, just that I never saw it that way.

Well, harmony is a pretty cool goal. I certainly have backed down for harmony's sake, many times. Some would call me wimpy. Some probably have. I just tend to avoid conflicts like this one, where people are getting all whipped up about nothing, really... y'know? This is a pretty cool bunch of people.

Unfortunately the time for easy fixes... say, just move the thread to Turf, where more people certainly would have enjoyed it, anyway... has probably already past. Now this thread has come to stand for something a lot more than it is, and moving it now would be symbolically different than moving it earlier would have been.
