I'm all for having a new banner. There was talk before about needing the artist's permission before we actually used one of the ones that Estel created. Has that been done?

fraid not. The thread died, and I don't speak Chinese (from memory, I think that's the language of the artist) so I never did anything about it

I might try to do some better ones now that I've had more practice.

If that's a problem I could always ask Aramel for help writing to the artist for permission. Just so's you know.

I wanted to do this during the opening celebrations, but just never got around to it.

We've thought for a while that we need a new banner given that logo in the banner we have now was made for the Oxford 2004 TORC moot. It's kewl and it suits us, but it wasn't made for us. So I had an idea for a new one. Really simple...still keeps the Tolkien influence and has a party-like feel to it whenever you consider what is happening in the pic:



I could try to make the words a bit bigger.

It's short and sweet and colorful. It's an option and we wouldn't have to worry about getting any artist's permissions.

I have other ideas about possibly using pictures of Rivendell due to the Homely Site reference, but this one was easiest to start out with.

So what say you?

That's a good one, Eru - especially if you manage to make the text a little bigger. But before we decide anything, please present your Rivendell themed ideas as well.

Could we have a "Design the B77 Banner" Competition? There's a lot of good artists on the boards and it might be fun.

Maybe make it anonymous though? Set up a general photobucket for the artists to use, and have the rangers post the options. That way, people are voting for what they think is the best banner, not for the person they like the most. Just an idea



All that said, I do like the banner we have now - would be a bit sad to see it go.

I like the banner we have now, but it kind of is inappropriate when you think of what it was made for....Ber designed the logo and I think she's said something similiar to that before.

I like the idea about a competition like Alatar & Estel mention and the way Estel proposes to set it up via a 'ranger-controlled' photobucket account.

Could you Rangers set that up and accept submissions via email to then be uploaded? That would be fab!

Well, here's some stuff I've messed with in the past hour, just to show what we possibly could do. I used the same pic, but just changed the font, and showed it as it could look if we had a board theme.

I don't know how to do a board wide theme, so I just took the theme I use and made the colours match I'm sure if we created an actually board 77 skin that people could pick, it would look a lot nicer than what I've done. I just figured if people started to come up with ideas, we could get the ball rolling on this

I'll likely be way in the minority on this but I'm not a fan of having a set theme. Much prefer the freedom to chhose what I'm comfortable with.

yova - it's not a set theme. It's a skin specifically created for board 77 that you can choose from the list of skins. Like HoF has - they have their own theme, but you don't have to use it.

I love green. Very nice!

Not true. You must have missed the announcement that we made that Aeolus was available for those who did not want to use our theme.

I like the made banner Estel especially with the green colour of the board.

I am trying to think of nice banners but not sure, we are not a fixed lotr site anymore so ...what are we? do we have a purpose? (having fun of course) but is there something here that keeps us central?
