One sentence? It would get the spammers involved. :D
Perhaps a thread could start in Turf to test the idea out. In the meantime I'm still behind the committee with their task. I see no reason for anyone to get upset unless they feel they have to. A different opinion isn't threatening. Good manners help though.

Hi Gang! I haven’t posted here (or anywhere else, for that matter) in a few days, mostly because of RL issues, though I have lurked a bit. But, I wanted to say a few things, lest my silence be interpreted as, well, something other than what it is, which is nothing in particular.

First of all, I agree with people like Anthy and Alandriel and Eru that the Charter should not be abandoned, that it serves a very useful function andwas written with the best of intentions for the benefit of the people here. It is not the cause of our problems, and changing it will not solve those problems.

That said, I also support and have confidence in the integrity and intentions of this committee. I think that the Charter would benefit greatly from being simplified as much as possible. Despite having served nearly four months as a Ranger, even I have never read the entire thing, and tended to use it in the way that TED described, as something to go to when the need arose. Making it more accessible can only be a good thing for everyone involved.

To that end, I would like to point out that Jynusa made some excellent suggestions in her two threads on this issue, one here in Business and one in the Jury Room. I think her suggestions provide a good starting point, and would allow for the first phase of this process to go very quickly, avoiding some of the (valid) concerns of people like Yov who are worried that this will become a protracted process draining life from the rest of the board.

I don’t have time right now to quote or comment on Jynusa’s proposals, but I will provide links to her threads and ask that the committee members look over them and consider them as a starting point.

Committee Rotation for Charter Simplification

Full Agenda for Review by Recomposed Committee

I believe in overhugging. I also don't believe it's possible to give too many hugs, so you can imagine where that takes me.

Responding to V:

I will actually OPPOSE reducing the Key Principles to their one-sentence headers. My reasoning is simple: One sentence of a person's principles is not enough, so how can it be such for a collection of persons? I believe in brevity where possible but when it comes to principles that shouldn't apply. Those short paragraphs are very defining to B77 as a whole.

I do agree with the deletion of Ownership of Board77, which is partially why I didn't recommend including it the stuff to be moved into Article 1.

I do not agree that the quorum requirement should be removed because I see where it is important. Should this board become as others I have seen, with thousands of members, determining a percentage of active members will become very important instead of just a percentage of members. It is only a bit of basic math whenever the issue comes up.

The part about Loremasters 2/3 majority will be difficult under current circumstances as there are four of us and that's hard to break down into a 2/3 fraction. Would that be 3/4 or 2/4?

I agree that the position of Mayor should not be required on every committee, but at least one current Ranger should be required to participate in at least an administrative capacity as 95% of committee members won't be able to add/remove committee members, lock/delete threads, or insitute the changes agreed upon.

I will get into the rest later. Work calls again.

If people just stopped bickering about what will come of this committee and just waited and made suggestions, this would run a lot smoother.

tinwe, you're right. I started the committee's discussions with jny's suggestions because she made some excellent suggestions for deletions. She got the ball rolling and I wanted to keep it up.

I also agree with a lot of things that fixer said. Granted I'd love to get rid of the math required for calculating a quorum, but if someone shows me why it's important, I'll change my stance. Calculating active members seems important enough.

Anyway, I love the relevant comments. Let's keep the bickering to a minimum. I don't like coming into a thread and seeing that someone has edited a bunch of their posts to "..." because then I get very curious as to what I missed.

It wasn't important, TED.

I was a little out of line. Inadvertantly, actually, but I was. Editing out posts created on the basis of my own mistakes seemed better than letting them stay there.

I will fill you in on PM, though, if you'd like. I'm not too proud to admit when I'm wrong, and I can relate to how you feel about deleted posts. I always feel like I am missing something, too.

I'm going to try to stay out of this committee for discussing revision of the Charter. It has occurred to me that I have an awful lot to say about something I didn't volunteer to do!

Have a great day, people.

But Anthy we as a committee are here for you all. What you have to say is important. BUT, if this discussion thread is gonna irk you like it's irked me in the past (non-Anthy related I assure you) then staying out is best. But, yes another but, without your voice (and the rest of the boards voices) it's just TED, Elian, Mummpy, Me, Steve, Fixer, and hals voices. What fun is that? ;)

If you still feel more comfortable giving input via PM then I respect your decision, but I personally like to hear EVERYONE's input. And I do mean everyone :)

I agree with some of the stuff Fixer said. Will post it in the JR.

I agree tinwe that the charter should not be ditched and that in needs to be simplified.

TED, having been on the committee for quorums, the moving averages were IdylleSeethes' idea. The point was to make sure that we had a quorum that accurately reflected voting patterns. That is, we wanted to make sure that the quorum wasn't too low or so high that nothing would pass. It seemed like the best compromise.

I also don't like the idea of disposing with the paragraphs about the key principles, as those really define what b77 is all about more than anything, I think.

:hug: :hug: for Anthy.

:)

Good point, Mary.

Although I think you, TED, Elian, Mummpy, Steve, Fixer, and Hal are doing fine, without any jewels of insight from me.

How about this: I will refrain from engaging folks about their comments in this thread, no matter how irritating I personally find them to be. :halo:

Because best case scenario is that someone knows that I disagree with them, and I'm not sure how useful that really is; worst case scenario is that I make a comment without fully understanding the context, and I hurt someone's feelings inadvertantly.

:neutral:

However, if I feel that you committee types cannot live another moment without the brilliance of my irreplaceable input, I will feel free to share my deep and useful thoughts.

:)

Thank you, btw, to tinwe and Fixer and My Little Persimmon :). I deeply appreciate your kindness.

:love:

How many people have to leave the board before we can call this experiment a failure?
How much more angst? How many more times does this need to be spun around? A 100? A thousand?
Does the appetite for disdain ever become satiated? Ever?

Now after that, nothing was ever seen or heard of Ungoliant again, but it is certain she fled to Ered Gorgoroth, mating with lesser spiders and devouring them, leaving that place a place of dread, shunned by any living being, save those of evil purpose. It is said she fled even further south, mating and devouring until at last utterly famished, she devoured herself.

Would a ranger shut off my permissions to post here please?
If not I am going to throw a tantrum and attack people until I get banned.

Thank you and have a nice day. :)

A. Who's left now?

B. You can't be banned for a first offense.

Holby, calm down. The unpleasantness seems to have passed. Don't go back to your angry posts where you tell people to have at each other. So uncivilised. ;)

Anthy, feel free to shine your wisdom upon us whenever you like.

Things are moving along. Read here for the latest. Questions? Comments? Do you like it? Do you hate it? Feedback.

Offenses for which the maximum penalty for a first offense is an immediate ban

• Spamming the board with ads;
• Spamming the board with pornography;
• Hacking the board;
• Refusing to abide by the Decision of the Jury in a Hearing [maximum penalty is mandated by Article 3];
• Threats of real life violence or other criminal acts against members
[maximum penalty is mandated by Article 3];
• Deliberately introducing a virus to members of the board.
• Falsely accusing a member of harmful RL actions in order to deny them access to the Thinking of England forum.
I will not calm down.
I will also not reveal the names of people that have Pm'd over the last few days who have had enough.
Take a look around. The place is really rocking isn't it?
Go see how many posts were made by how many people.

THE PLACE IS DYING !!!!!!!

And Hal here is one for you.
You have continually accused Cerin of putting the charter over the posters.
Well you have continually put your own self righteous blind position over the peace and happiness of the rest of the board.
No matter how much disruption it caused, you just had to keep on going and going and going and going.....
And you are still going.
STOP AND DETACH ONCE AND FOR ALL !!!

Now do I really have to post ads and porno pics to get my permissions to post here turned off?

What do you want Holby? I don't understand what you are trying to accomplish. I just want to understand please.

And "who've had enough", enough what? Of the board? Of us trying to discuss the charter?
