You're quite right. I really should. It's one of those rare series where the movie versions are so old that I watched them before I knew of the books or Ian Flemming. Should I start with Casino Royale? (Dumb question?)

No great need to as they are substantially stand alone stories but you might want to read them in chronological order for neatness sake. Bear in mind that they were written a long time ago so the early ones might feel a little dated. Casino Royale is not the best but it is worth reading for the sake of seeing the introduction of a great literary hero. And for discovering new uses for carpet beaters.

I'm totally with Alatar here, but then I'm no purist; I stopped watching Bond movies in the cinema some time around 1986. And I never watched any of the Pierce Brosnan ones until a couple of weekends ago. Still, I think that Casino Royale has definitely reinvigorated the series, which had been gradually pushed into a corner. Remember, the Bond franchise now has very narrow manoeuvring space between the new type of spy movies (Bourne ID, xXx) and Austin Powers. Doing a Moore-type, suave Bond would be far too close to Powers-esque caricature.

I'll try to get my hands on a couple somtime next year maybe. I'm familiar with the origins of James Bond and Ian Flemming. In fact Ian Flemming thought up James Bond not far from where I live. Flemming was training to be a spy just 30 mins east of here in Whitby in a secret agent camp called Camp-X. Apparently some of his very own experiences from the camp went directly to James Bond. There are a few streets in Whitby alluding to Bond's history there, Fleming St., James Bond Cres., etc.

Well not persay. :D His story was inspired by his author's training in Canada.

Canada silently gives the world so much culture. :D

Later on I'll also explain how we invented democracy...

James Bond was inspired by much of Fleming's life in toto. Even the schools Fleming attended. Any training in Canada would have been just a small part of that.

Nice try.

I only go on fact. :D Part of what I mentioned was in his biography.

BTW, make sure you give a message to your dear son for me: I'm dreadfully sorry that Man City continues to be shyte this year and what a lovely derby over the weekend against Man Utd. I'm most pleased by the result. And Ben Thatcher is suspended again. Pity
