So *E* was just pointing out in the Borat thread the lamentable fact that attractive guys hardly ever get nekkid in movies. But...it does happen from time to time. So I thought I'd gather a scientific survey and ask -

What are some good nude scenes in film? (I suppose female nudity is allowed, but really, it's common enough that it hardly merits any mention.)

I think my first encounter with a naked person on TV was Kate Winslet in Titanic. That will always be a fond memory! :D

The Pillow Book was a memorable one - Ewan McGregor, mmm.

I used to make lists of all the celebrities I've seen naked. Hopefully none of my teachers were looking over my shoulder in class while that was happening!

It really isn't worth mentioning whenever a woman gets into her skivvies. I've been thinking about it lately because there is an unfortunate trend (or I guess you could call it a rash) of female celebs flashing their cooters. No seriously. Instead of keeping their legs closed and exiting a car gracefully, they bare everything and usually without panties of any kind. Between Lindsay Lohan's goods (which look like an asshole), and Britney Spears's C-section scar, I've realized what little worth there is in the female form. Especially when yes, guys rarely peel off, and any old PG-13 movie has a pair of tits in them. Whether it's on film or in the tabloids, there are few women you can't become well familiar with every inch of through a simple internet search, and that's kind of sad in and of itself.

I'm not trying to put down the human body in all it's many shapes when I complain about the poor selection of male nudity in films. It's just hard not to compare the two genders. The naked girls have amazing bodies while the naked guys are usually played for laughs and are rather scary, such as the wrestling scene in BORAT, or Bam Margera getting his ass branded in JACKASS NUMBER TWO. It's all about what you're exposed to, of course, and the first time I ever saw a nude male (in the movies) was Dennis Hopper at the age of 60 or more (can't remember the name of the flick). And I'm pretty sure that EUROTRIP still holds the record for most penises on screen at one time - there is a nude beach scene featuring a whole lot of ugly and old schlongs. I can't watch five movies without a chest being thrown in my face, but this is all we get for guys? Feh!

Without bringing modeling or magazine shoots into it, or angles where it could be disputed whether a stand-in was used, here are some examples of actors who've appeared nude on film:
  • Michael Pitt in THE DREAMERS. You see everything, and lots more of it in the NC-17 version.

Edward Norton in AMERICAN HISTORY X. It's a rape scene and entirely unpleasant. His body is amazing, though.

The entire cast of Oz. It's a great show and not just because of the plethora of naked men. Chris Meloni, Harold Perrineau, Dean Winters, Kirk Acevedo, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, etc., have all been featured in various stages of undress.

Guy Pearce in MEMENTO. Really quick shot of his bum.

Wes Bentley shows his butt in both AMERICAN BEAUTY and SOUL SURVIVORS.

Kevin Bacon in WILD THINGS. He walks out of the shower at the end for a full frontal. I think it was really quick, though.

The cast of JACKASS NUMBER TWO. Lots of scrotums and arses. None good.

Viggo Mortensen in THE INDIAN RUNNER. Full frontal. I've only seen the pictures, not the movie. Oh, and you see his butt in PSYCHO.

Ewan McGreggor in several things. Pretty much everything during a wild concert scene in THE VELVET GOLDMINE, and I hear THE PILLOW BOOK is pretty graphic.

Christian Bale in AMERICAN PSYCHO. It's been a while, but even if you only see his bod, it's worth the view. I think you see his arse in a shower scene, but I can't remember what is shown during the threesome.

Laurence Fox and a shower-room full of young guys in THE HOLE. Keira Knightley must've had fun filming that one.

Gerard Butler in MRS. BROWN. I haven't seen it but have pictures of him running naked into the ocean, so there is some peen bouncing around.

Mario Lopez and Julian McMahon's rears in an episode of Nip/Tuck. The video is on YouTube. :P

Cillian Murphy in 28 DAYS LATER. He wakes up naked on a hospital bed and later there is a shower scene. You pretty much see everything.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone's butts in BASEKETBALL, though it's not really what you're looking at in the shot.

Tim Robbins in THE PLAYER. He's taking a mudbath and gets out. Lucky for us, some of the mud falls off.

The entire running length of CALIGULA. You'll probably never want to see a naked body again after this film. The history of it's making is more interesting that the film itself, but basically it was financed by Penthouse magazine and features a lot of "performances" by porn actors. More sex acts and body parts featured than you can count. It's legendary. :P
The best part? I just found a database of this information. Guess that's how I'll be spending my weekend. :LMAO:

Will add more as I remember them.

EDIT: same here, TWT. TITANIC was the first time I ever saw nudity in the theatre, and AMERICAN BEAUTY was the first sex scene. Those things are uncomfortable seeing with your mom and strangers respectively. :P

Will Smith in "I, Robot", and it was a shower scene, not a sex scene, and actually plot driven, which gains extra points.

Yeah, but see that's the thing. With guys it's always the butt and nothing more--at least in the movies I am likely to watch. I mean a nice butt is nothing to sneeze at (now there's a mental picture!), but I definitely think it's a bit unfair.

Just sayin.

Just watched DaVinci Code last night. So we get to see lots of the albino monk--too bad he's torturing himself.

No, I agree. Girl butts are no big deal either, but girls also have more private parts to show off. It's as alarming to see pubes as it is a penis, and I would suggest its about even when it comes to either of them appearing onscreen. Using the TITANIC example - they were fine showing her breasts, but Kate Winslet's nether regions were completely off display. I guess when women are walking around naked, the chest is the natural area to display, whereas with men, it's their bums. Neither are all that big a deal, so that's what we're shown.

For me, it's not so much that I want to see full frontal, but arses are pretty ho-hum. If anyone's galivanting around naked, though, I do vote for it being a guy. I'm just glad any of them have complied!

P.S. I wish I could include BOOGIE NIGHTS in yov's list, but that was a prosthetic. :P

I was watching Slapshot tonight (you know you like it!) and I found a great example of "real" female nudity. Meaning nudity that didn't seeem out of place. It seems in all movies that after sex women are embarassed to show their breasts to the man they just screwed, hence the proverbial L-shaped sheets. In this she just sat up in bed and talked to him. The scene must have been a couple minutes long when she was sitting there just talking to the man. It seemed natural instead of a crowd-grabber (she was hardly the epitome of gorgeous by many's standards).

Just my twopennorth from tonight. :D

No one has mentioned Ken Russell's 'Men in Love' yet where Alan Bates and Oliver Reed strip off in front of a log fire and wrestle. I would guess it was one of the first sights of men nude in a mainstream film and it was unforced and continuous, not a quick flash. I think the comparative taboo is ridiculous and blame the film makers. I doubt if the public minds that much.

Well I could get all feminist on you guys and say that the reason that women are shown nude so often on the screen is because we are the sex class and basically walking boobs and genitals to a lot of men, but I will restrain. Plus where's the love for the female body? Sure it gets shown alot movies, but so do beautiful panoramic vistas and no one ever laments that they are overused. And if you are going to say that is because we always see women naked and rarely men, then your blame rightly belongs on the men in the industry, because that is what they want to see and that is what they film.

Now for a miniseries with quite a few scenes of full frontal male nudity, check out the HBO series Rome that was on last year. The whole series is quite decadent (as would be expected because it is about Rome) and one memorable scene that sticks out in my mind is when Brutus's mother recieves a gift of a slave with a huge penis with a big bow around it. I'm supposing that he is a sex slave. :D

Oscar-winning foreign film Y Tu Mama Tambien had probably the most male nudity I've ever seen in a film. It was very casual and relaxed, not gratuitious or anything. Just that if the characters didn't happen to be wearing clothes in a particular scene, the camera didn't arrange itself so as to hide it.

Unfortunately, the two male lead characters who are nekkid all over I found very unattractive but I've heard others say they found them very attractive so...

It's not so much complaining about female nudity as it is complaining about the lack of male nudity. There are people here and there who happen to think men can be beautiful too.

Ditto, yov. When I first saw Diego Luna, I thought maybe I had rented another film by accident because wasn't this supposed to have lots of nudity in it? Well, he looked like a child and I was worried about that. At least you don't see his face too much in the sex scenes. I can pretend its someone older looking. :P

As for Gael Garcia Bernal, I couldn't believe he was a hearthrob because ew. However, over the years and in seeing him elsewhere, I do think he's pretty attractive. In some photos more than others, but always much better than I first thought.

*joints Sid in teh feminist stuff* ;) I'm looking forward to this year's Oscar nominations and new stats for me to research. The amount of actresses who've won or been nominated for roles in which they've appeared nude or played hookers is amazing.

Was this thread's lack of activity indicative of the lack of worthwhile male visuals in film?

I have no comment on nudity in films...I just had to say that I can't believe you two don't find Gael attractive. He's definitely swoonworthy.

I'm not claiming to be a fan, just no longer a detractor.

I've only seen one of his films, so my esteem has nowhere to go but up. :P
