Ashley T. Amato, Production Assistant at Vin Di Bona Productions wrote:
I am a production assistant in southern California researching show topics for a new prime time reality special. We are seeking Lord of the Rings fans with children and are offering a large cash prize if people fit the bill. Specifically we are casting for a show about America's most outrageous parents. The goal of this show is to be a light hearted, family oriented, comedy-reality show.

We are looking for parents with interests and hobbies that their children might not share a general interest in. The Lord of the Rings following would provide a good story line and I'm sure there are countless fans who also have children, who aren't as enthusiastic about the whole phenomenon.

We ask that the people send an e-mail to vdbpcasting@hotmail.com. The producers will be going through the submissions and contacting people for further discussion. It would be great if the people who are responding would include their contact information though.

Trekkie ripoff!!! Bah!

[I'm just jealous because I don't qualify. I've never paraded about in elven cloaks, nor forced my kids to read LotR aloud by the fire.]

I don't qualify either. My kids went with my husband and me (and my parents) to all three premieres. My son won a prize in the pre-film trivia contest at TTT.

This kind of thing makes me go grrrmmmmfff. I keep forgetting that people with consuming interests are funny--that it's much better not to be interested or moved by anything at all. Grrrmmmfff.

I try to read LOTR to my cat but she doesn't show the necessary interest. Do I qualify? :scratch

TV researchers of this ilk ought to be subjected to ritual humilation.

The re-enactors on a Living History MB I visit collect this kind of crap and then sit around to point and laugh at it. Why is poking fun at geeks an acceptable past time?!!

:rage:

Yes indeed.

I live next door to some freaks who are obsessed with sport. They have to go out every day and play football. They wear all the club merchandise, and copy whatever their favourite Football yob/star is wearing/doing. At the weekends they perform the same obsessive ritual, week in week out, they get horribly drunk while either sitting in front of their favourite Sports channel or gadding off to the local match. Their conversation is littered with football references and thus are difficult to make sense of. Any form of education outside of the physical kind is scoffed at, and any other hobby is considered effeminate.

Now why don't the researchers make a docusoap about them and leave ordinary folk alone?

Grrrrr po'ed :rage:

:halo: Feel better now. :D

Well, my dad read the books to us in front of the fire...but we never got him to parade around in stuff.

my mother is the reason i found torc :p she demanded me to read the LOTR when the movie came out.

First thought she was absolutely insane for liking fantasy and fairy tales :P she had everything, from calender to tolkien books.

boy did that come back to bite me in the ass later :LMAO:

Oh my. I do qualify.... my youngest daughter is intensely embarrassed by our LOTR obsession. When we dragged her to the Gathering with us, she spent quite a bit of time in the room watching TV, because she didn't want to be seen with the weirdos downstairs.

I wonder how much money they are talking about???? I've got a kid going to college next year.......

Well at the Gathering, as well as RingCon in Germany a month before, I was surrounded by people dressing up full-time.

And geek as I am, nothing is as off-putting and embarrassed-to-be-associated-with-feeling as watching a really fat, spotty elf puffing on a Marlboro.

:LMAO: :LMAO: :LMAO:

Now that's an image...were they wearing an Arwen costume? That's the funniest...seeing people try to pull off specific costumes from the movies when they just Shouldn't be! People who are a bit more filled out than the actors can have very good elvish costumes...that they created themselves following the essence and theme of the movies...but it's a disgrace when they try to pull off the actual costume.

Steve, you were the only person at the Tuesday night party that I can remember who Wasn't at least slightly in a costume...next time, we're getting you into Something LotRish

I had elvish-looking cufflinks and a white waistcoat with a very subtle light cream elvish-looking swirls on them.

It was as far as I was prepared to go, and then some.

And the only thing LotRish I'd like to get into is the chick looking after PJ's children in Rohan.

There's a gal in Rohan, too...

Hmm, I guess we'll just have to get Estel to work on you...either that, or have her wear something LotRish...then you'll want to get in it.

Yes, I meant Gondor.

*swoon*

She's their nanny in real life.

I don't know...their costumes weren't that spectacular...what with the head coverings and all.

Well I dont qualify ... I did take both my kids to the Gathering .. although Tab hadnt been born yet :D

William enjoyed himself tremendously and had great fun shouting 'Its Father Christmas' every time he saw Gandalf :D

Leoba : totally agree with you on the documentary thing ... we used to have the same complaints, and still do , when they do docs on people who Live RP ! Always portray them as total sad bastards with nothing else to do .. well .. what is so bad about running about in costume beating the crap out of someone with a latex sword :D

I most likely will qualify. I am trying to find the time to make myself an elvish outfit, and my kids (7, 4 and 12 months) all think that I am crazy. :D
