So, the song "Mysterious Ways" by U2 is a fave, has been since it came out. The album stayed with my first wife, though, so it wasn't until I started filling in gaps via iTunes that I bought it again. Listened to it. Loved it...until it got to the line "She sees the man inside the child"

It wasn't there. I couldn't quite make out what Bono WAS singing, but it sure wasn't that.

Had I misremembered? Was there another version of the song? The single and the album version were the same length...the online lyric sites all agreed with me...but my ears told another story.

Well, I finally tracked down the single version from iTunes today--U2 put out a "complete" collection--and that's the one I knew. Even though I had owned the album, I must have heard and keyed into the version they played on the radio even more.

Anyone else run into this sort of thing?

There was a fantastic advert for Maxell cassettes back in the 70s that had a guy mis-hearing most of Desmond Decker's Israelites song, complete with flash-cards. It was something like:

Wake up in the morning
sleeping for bread, sir,
so that every monk and beef-head

Oh, oh, my ears are alight

At least that's I think he said.

I should have gotten Maxwell tapes.

Oh, the lyrics we THINK we hear are a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

Well I'm hot buttered, check it and see...

There's a bathroom on the right...

Jose, can you see?

A friend of mines little sister used to sing Bon Jovi's You Give Love a Bad Name as You Give Love a Band Aid.

Does that count?

I'm sure I'm not the only person who used to think the Moody Blues were singing about "Knights in White Satin".
