No it isn't your computer, it is something with the settings on the board. I haven't been able to locate any info on it yet, but I did notice that if you open up the smily box, the smilies do not fill in according to the box size. As opposed to most other sites. Aside from being able to adjust the size, is there anything as far as adjusting placement goes? Like something similar to a word wrap thing maybe?

Hmmm, I was afraid of that. I logged out and then back in as Freddy. (This is Lali.)

You can't see Rangers on the legend b/c it's a hidden group. Should I set it to a closed group?

I don't think it should be a hidden group. Is there a public option?
You can always check out the other board and see how that ranger group was set up. They should be very similar.

edit:
And it appears the smiley issue has something to do with board styles. The smilies aren't squished when you set the style to prosilver.

*Alandriel* is Alandriel's original user ID. She no longer wanted admin powers but seeing as she created board77 she couldn't get rid of the powers for that ID. So she left that one, added the astericks and created a new ID so she could still post here without having admin powers.

I set the group to "closed." You can see it now in the legend.

I think that will work. The only thing is that it says you can only be added to the group by the group leader, which is the Administrator account. Is that a problem, do you think? My only fear would be a loss of the password to that account....

Yes, I think I can. Should it be E* or should we leave it as the generic Administrator account?

ETA: I added you to the Rangers group, holby, just to see if it would let me. Tell me if it worked! (And then I'll remove you. Don't go on some rampage with your new powers!! :tsktsk:

Try assigning some random person to the group that isn't logged in, and then remove them. Then you'll know.

Or, if you want to surprise somebody, try it on someone that is logged in. :D

E* would make sense to me since she always has ranger powers, but whatever.

What is cool about this, is you can change which group is your default group and which group you post under.

Ooh, pick me, pick me!! I show up as "offline" because I decide to keep myself hidden, although I know the mods can see me here. And I should not be in any group that I am aware of, unless it is in the generic being able to post in such stuff as TOE etc.

I will try switching over to "prosilver" to see if that helps with the smilies, although why it would beats the heck outta me? They appear in separate windows, at least when one tries to expand that window. Why would a skin specifically dictate how other board functions appear? (knows just enough about such things to be dangerous and clearly not clued in. :()

Well, prosilver as a skin is even worse than subsilver currently is. It gives you the right handed avatar panels, and the smilies were just as messed up.

Odd thing here, when I respond to posts using either skin, the fonts are definitely larger than those that already posted responses are.

Good luck to all of you trying to figure this stuff out. My opinion here, scrub "prosilver" since I do not think anyone would like it.

Oh, sorry, Beth. I had already picked holby. :(

Done playing, holby? I should return you to your normal state. If you want to remain a ranger, we'll have to put you to work. =:)

What happened to that place in the admin panel where you could see what each logged-in user was doing?

I wanna see if Holby is checking out the secret forums =:)

Oh, if he's checking out secret forums, then he gets to handle the next unpleasant rangerly task we have to do. :P

(If you go to the specific forum, you can see who's browsing it.)

Sorry I had to run out like 2 minutes after I was rangerized. The funny thing is, I don't think I had all the permissions. I couldn't see the "hidden" forum I don't think and I couldn't find the admin panel. The only difference I noticed was seeing everyone online and being able to change which group I belonged to. Then again I didn't put a lot of effort into it either.

This new version of phpbb is pretty cool. Has lots of handy additions it seems.

I think when I was changing board styles to test smilies it was at the same time Jude was changing the smiley sizes, so forget what I said about the styles having an affect.

Any thoughts of setting up a "practice" admin board like the one we had way back when?

I was thinking that the other day. It might be worth doing, since the admin stuff is almost completely different here.

Well, I'd be interested in rangering someone else temporarily to check to see that all of the permissions are on for the ranger group.

Anyone interested?

I just discovered the "Test out user permissions" function. You can browse the board with a different user's permissions, so you'll know what they have access to. There is still the link to the Admin panel, and when you click on it, you get reminded that you are browsing under [ursername]'s permissions, and you can't view any of the admin functions until you revert to your own permissions.

Fortunately you don't have access to their PM's, so there's no breach of privacy issues involved. :P
