What they came up with as the "worst song" is actually quite interesting at times, though annoying at others.

You have to wait for the operatic soprano rapping cowboy lyrics over a backbeat of tuba and the Walmart children's chorus to really appreciate this, though.

I......

Don't think it's that horrid or annoying actually.

For a while I was thinking, "jeez, you guys hardly even tried, there are way worst songs out there, some of this is even pretty listenable." But then by around minute five I wanted to commit murders. And it just keeps going. Lots of murders.

Well done, fellas!

But seriously, the worst song ever would require both screamy whiny emo singing and impossibly repetitive reggeaton so, sorry guys, nice try but not quite.

No research or science needed - most annoying song ever is Achy Breaky Heart.

This had me laughing most of the time. It's nowhere near the worst song as it's so purposefully absurd. :LMAO:

I'd agree that Achy Breaky Heart is probably one of the worst popular music songs out there but electronic atonal music is what really makes me cringe. Milton Babitt's Philomel I particulariy remember. :thumbsdown

I actually quite liked My Way by the Sex Pistols.

I think there was a little Go! Team in there.

Also, I never thought I'd never actually hear Operap, the oh-so-hip-and-happening-right-now theme music of Sushi Girl, the 'manga' Stu Levy loves to forget.

*while listening*

Hmm...the opera over a cowboy-ish percussion plus accordion is rather interesting.

Oooo...and the crazy bagpipes right after. I do love me some bagpipes. I don't know the point of the screaming overtop, but it didn't detract from the bagpipes. :P

Ooooh but now the children singing about Christmas time is a bit much. And minute five is rather...eh...yov. I agree. :P And this section of rap opera is rather obnoxious. I almost like that little opera bit over the cowboy beat, though.

Some sweet banjos at 9:44.

17:56 is nice until the loudspeaker voice comes overtop.

and it's over!

Worst part for me, choir children singing about holidays and Wal Mart.

It's not so bad... A bit like listening to some 90's funk, while someone's listening to contemporary opera in the next room, and a parade's on outside. Oh, and someone's watching the Dukes of Hazzard on TV.

OK, it's getting really tedious at the 'cowboy livin' bit, but the accordian fanfare afterwards redeems it. :)

The cowboy thing is annoying alright, but tolerable.

There's far worse out there. Far far worse.

Y'all quit hatin' on Billy Ray now, y'hear? Achy Breaky wasn't that bad.

Of course, I've had my two kids sing this at me for about 20 minutes straight before.

I'd say The Song that Never Ends is a pretty fun kids song if it, you know, ended.

No song could be worse than "Seasons in the Sun."

Seriously. Adding banjos and a children's choir and accordion opera rap beats to that song would only improve it.

:suspicious:

Dude. Yes, it was. Especially for those of us who do not like country music.

I remember being on vacation in Colorado. We climbed to the top of of one of the small mountains near our campsite. On our way down, you could vaguely make out the tune of Achy Breaky Heart. It never stopped. The damned people kept blasting it during our entire time hiking down the mountain and of course it got louder the closer we got.

Then in 7th grade band we had to play the damned song for a concert! :rage: :bang: :thumbsdown

Oh I don't know. Can't Fight This Feeling by REO Speedwagon is perilously close.
As is My Sharona by the Knack.

My Sharona at least has a beat. And a Weird Al parody. :D

All of REO's stuff kind of mushes together into a gray, goopy musical ooze. Nothing to recommend it, but it doesn't suck your soul like that other song I can't bear to mention again.

Hmmm..don't know if I've found it. Is it sung by Terry Jacks, with lyrics "we had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun"?

If so, it's a bit hokey, but not that horrible. :P Even Nirvana played it...found it on YouTube. Much better hearing them perform it.

The album version of My Sharona had a really good guitar solo, so it's off the list.
Any song that can support a really good guitar solo can't be all bad.

And here's evidence that Achy Breaky just might not be the dumbest country song ever:

Although if you mute it, the video is actually pretty good. [ img ]
