I crossed the Mississippi by train, and it was... not as impressive as I had expected. But I grew up where Dnipro is almost a mile wide.

Huh. I thought they preyed more on cat sized animals. (the number of times I've seen coyote sighting posters followed by missing cat posters makes me very angry at people who let their cats out at night). Meanwhile we are getting coastal flooding warnings for some reason. Usually that only happens w...

Very dramatic, Maria!

The goats are not tethered. They move them before dark.

We have coyotes. Can they take on goats? I suppose there could be a mountain lion or a bobcat.

HoF is giving me a 502 bad gateway error and says it will only speak to the site owner. :(

We are paying for our lovely wet winter and spring now. Lots of lovely dry tinder on the hills.

Also lots of goats, to eat up the tinder and keep the fire danger down.

Being without power that long is scary in high heat!

My parents promised to call for evac if that happened. Their highs are routinely above 100F. We usually don't get above 90.

If we get five days of rain in a row, we start gathering animals in breeding pairs.

Someone remarked how in the children's pictures of the Ark, it's always two male lions, with the manes, and now I can't I unsee it.

No, we don't. We get three rainy days in a row after a year of drought, and start whining. It's a wonder we don't get smote.

What is the traditional activity? Are there fireworks? I'm getting so many plums this year that a branch broke off. :( We didn't do a good job pruning it when it was young and I don't know what to do about it now. Meanwhile, my strawberry is trying to escape the pot with 4 feet long runners. I moved...

Someone adding low-power shock batons to it in 3... 2... 1... And teach the AI to recognize when the sound of typing stops. This reminds me, though, when we started working with the specimen bank, they had a semi-autonomous roaming robot. I can't remember what it was supposed to be checking for, but...

Are you sure it's a berry? Looks more like a willow to me. [emoji14]

I'm not having a lot of luck this year, either, but the raspberry appears to be doing well, and we've been getting a handful of sweet berries every day. Little baby bushes are starting to produce, too.

I was going to say that black bears are more like oversized raccoons and aren't usually aggressive. Then Google decided I need to see this:

California woman, 71, mauled to death in state’s first fatal black bear attack

Florida has all sorts of dangers!
‘We’re not gonna barbecue our way out of this’: Wild pigs, conquering all Florida counties, are now taking over the U.S.

Texas replied with "challenge accepted".

But I think high heat with high humidity is more of an immediate concern.
