He's not really my thing, but I'll always have a soft spot for Michael Buble because when he was just starting to become a name, he paid for one of our pallbearers to fly out from Vegas for my grandfather's funeral. My mom's cousin is a sound technician ~in the business~ so it was nice he could get the time off like that. Grandma was so greatful and kept saying how she was gonna buy his CD lol. I'd never heard of him at the time, so there's still the two-degrees-of-separation kind of novelty every time he's on tv, even though he's a huge star now.
Plus he's Canadian. That has started to lose its meaning these days thanks to Bieber, but at least I can say nice things about Michael Buble.
*E*
We have you guys to thank for Bieber?
(It's mostly the first minute or so that I had in mind, but the whole satire is pretty funny. I'm actually looking for a clip from the movie to tease Jude with, but I can't find it. There's a part where Honey looks out the window of the hospital, not knowing where she is, she sees a particular scene, and goes, "Uggh! Ottawa!" I can't find it, though. )
^ Canadian Bacon. I remember being confused as a kid watching it, cuz John Candy passed away before it came out. I thought he was okay! *sniff* (Uncle Buck was on again last night; reminisced with mom heh.)
If you want to make it a double feature, pair it with the South Park movie, which also features the U.S. waging war on Canada.
The movie isn't the best in the world, but it's good for at least one viewing. I think it was a satire on the Gulf War or the War in Iraq. (I could look it up, but I'm too lazy.) There are some truly brilliant parts to it, in any case.
There was another part that made me think of you, Jude. It involves a truck, graffiti, and a cop.
It is a myth that coercion is necessary in order to force people to get along together, but it is a persistent myth because it feeds a desire many people have. That desire is to be able to justify hurting people who have done nothing other than offend them in some way.
