What I got out of that is that you need chickens, Jude.

If only that were feasible - fresh eggs every day!

2nd day in a row with no Japanese beetles found. Are they gone for good?

Around here they are active June through most of August. It depends on your climate, I suspect.

You can see the difference between the leaves where the Japanese beetles hung out, and the others:

By the way, I keep checking but haven't found any more.

If they get a chance, they'll completely skeletonize leaves.
It looks like you got them in time. :)

Some of my raspberry leaves are looking like that, but I never see any bugs. Maybe I will wear glasses next time...

Uh-oh - just found two more today.

Into the soapy bucket they go!

The aphids are back! It looks like they've gone from zero to thousands overnight!

Fortunately I've already got three jars of blackcurrant jam this year, but now I have to spray like crazy to save next year's harvest.

Soapy water kills aphids, too, if you spray that on them.

Every year I get one "Sweet 100s" cherry tomato starter, and every year, the name does not lie. I've already picked over 200 tomatoes, and the darn thing is still blooming and ripening hundreds more. I'm giving them away as fast as I can. All I do is water it and give it some chicken manure mulch. The bush is about 8 feet tall now, and about 6 feet wide, and a little scary. Fortunately, I don't have any competition from birds, deer, or other critters, and the bugs have been minimal.
