That doesn't work on all series. We are watching Earth Final Conflict right now, and someone who died in Season One is on the cover of the Season Two DVDs. And we are over halfway through the season and the dead guy still hasn't shown up. I don't think he's gonna, either.

Watched the next episode.

Okay, that didn't take long. This time.

I bet Lali liked the sight of Daniel Jackson wrapped in a flag :D

I've been mulling over the last two episodes of Season 8, even though it's been a couple of weeks since I saw them.

It seems their time travels actually spawned clones of themselves. I don't mean meeting yourself in a later or earlier period, but actually creating a carbon copy of yourself.

The alternate Daniel Jackson gets shot in the present day. Almost too conveniently, the other three get executed in Ancient Egypt (funny how that happened to work out, isn't it? The only person spared from execution just happens to be taken over by a Goa'uld and killed in the present day. It looks like they actually duplicated themselves.

And when they finally set things to right, Samantha tells Jack that the two of them have to stay in Ancient Egypt. This is glossed over, because the plot quickly goes back to the present day, but can you imagine spending the rest of your life (which could be several decades!) in a completely different time period with no access to the people and things you grew up with?

I don't think the screenwriters thought this one out fully.

I remember thinking about that when I saw that episode. I've actually thought about that scenario quite a bit (or certain variations thereon).

It's an intriguing line of thinking.

I liked the first two episodes of Season 9 - even though everyone has said the last two seasons are not so good (hooray for diminished expectations!).

I had to roll my eyes solving the puzzle involved our arabic numerals. I've already suspended my disbelief enough about all those planets that happen to speak American English. Come on - is it too much to ask you to come up with a babel fish or translating microbes if you don't want to go the Tolkien route?

I thought there was something intrinsic in the Stargate that did the translation stuff for us? Or was that the TARDIS...

Thoughts after watching "Collateral Damage" (this is the episode about the memory-altering technology from Season 9):

If someone has no memory of committing a murder, are they truly guilty of murder? And if they get sentenced to life in prison, and they have no memory of the act, and hence no guilt, what purpose does their punishment serve?

Reminds me of an episode from Babylon 5, written long before that one. I wonder if there was a little plagiarism going on. In Babylon 5, extreme criminals could occasionally be mind-wiped, completely supplanting their memories. In "Passing through Gethsemane" a monk/priest is discovered to have previously been a mass murderer. I won't say any more, but it was one of the most profound episodes of TV I think I've ever seen.

Sounds intriguing.

I think, for me, it depends on the circumstances of the murder and the circumstances of why they don't remember. Is it because of drugs or alcohol? If so, then, yes, they are guilty and deserve to face punishment for their crimes. Is it because of a mental illness? If so, I still think they're guilty, but they may need a different punishment than just prison. It depends on the mental illness, the likelihood of it recurring, and the danger the person poses to others.

I thought of the same B5 episode after reading Jude's post, Alatar!

And to answer the question, I believe that yes, a person ought to be punished for an action they cannot remember because they still have the same personality and are likely to make the same decision again under the same circumstances.

In the B5 universe, though, there's no point in punishing someone who's undergone "death of personality." When the murderer's personality is gone and replaced by a harmless personality- punishment would be wrong.

How much "death of personality" is undergone if the memory of the murder is deleted from the murderer's mind? (I haven't seen Babylon 5 yet - looking forward to it!)

My own feeling is that we have to punish the murderer, but the punishment will have no meaning or relevance to the person. Otherwise, someone could plan ahead of time to commit a murder, and then remove the memory and thus get away scot-free.

Every new technology has a mixture of pros and cons, but for this particular technology I feel that the cons outweigh the pros about a zillion to one.

Just finished Season 9. I don't get why so many people say it's inferior - I found it just as compelling as the other seasons.

Did anyone else notice that the leader of Camelot was the same guy that played Denethor?

Just watched "The Ark of Truth". I must say, they gave away a major spoiler by having Morena Baccarin's name so prominently in the credits at the beginning. Her entrance could have been a major coup de théatre, instead I could see it coming the moment they started building up to it.

Oh well. Good movie otherwise.

Same thing happened during an episode of Babylon 5. I remember JMS commenting that they would have loved to not have the actresses name in the opening credits to avoid spoilers, but Union rules prevented it.

Whatever happened to the child of Apophis and Daniel's wife? Did they decide to abandon that storyline?
