Of course, TM. It almost goes without saying, eh? (You need a Wicked title! Then we'll completely match. :D)

Fuzzi, HURRAH! Enjoy. :D :Wooper:

Coincedentally, I bought three episodes of the original Star Trek on video yesterday. In some part because of you. :suspicious::)

Good book. :D

I'm not a literary critic though, so if you want to know the specifics of my reaction...you'll have to ask specific questions....

Happy, Mossi? :poke:

I'm glad you're enjoying it.

And I really like your sig, even if it is a month late. :P

I look forward to reading it, TM. :)

I opened my Chanukah gift for the night from my aunt and uncle, and it was the Grimmerie! :D It looks really neat! Interviews with most of the Elphabas and Galindas, along with most of the other major roles, stuff about how the music was written, how it was adapted. I'm really looking forward to reading it.

One of my "resolutions", so to speak, this year is to reread books I didn't understand or enjoy & try to find the good in them.

I've already finished two so far & it looks like "Wicked" is up next. I'll be sure to stop back in when I'm done... providing I can afford or find a copy. :)

Does the Grimmerie have loads of pictures? I'm thinking of getting it.

Would this be an appropriate thread to post my impressions of Son of a Witch?

Cem, yay! If you want your own copy, it shouldn't be too hard to find one at a used bookstore.

Jude, the Grimmerie has photos on almost every page: of the cast(s), rehearsals, from the production, publicity shots, etc. It's wonderful book, just to hold, lots of info about the production, etc. If you'd like pictures (especially of the original cast) this has quite a few, along with rehearsals, etc. Also, I'd be happy to scan my roommate's souvenir program once I get back to university.

Mossy, I'll probably need to buy my own. I've been blacklisted from the local library for the time being! ;)

I'm going to take my time with the book, but I'm hopeful I'll like it. The first two books of this year have both been liked this second time around.

I am interested in the Grimmerie too. I need to go to Barnes & Nobles sometime soon. Perhaps I'll pick up a copy to lust over! :D

Jude, you are done with the book? I think this would be the best place to share.

I would imagine this would be the perfect place to discuss Son of a Witch, I only request that you make it very clear when your discussion starts and stops as I have Son of a Witch but have not yet read it and don't want to read spoilers by mistake :) . And at this point I have no idea when I'll get around to reading it. :(

Mossy, that site has lots of good pictures! Are the ones in the book different?

Note: the rest of this post discusses the sequel, "Son of a Witch". I'll be as vague as possible, to avoid spoilers. Still, those wishing to avoid knowing anything about the book might want to stop reading now.

First, the good bit: this book deals with several periods of Liir's life, and the different episodes are blended together much more skillfully than in Wicked.

However...

There are several unresolved issues at the start of the book, and more accumulate during the course of the narration. As with most good books. But but but but but... none of them are resolved! Well, one question was sort-of answered in the last paragraph.

Doesn't Gregory Maguire understand the concept of the word "closure"? :rage:

At least the book is never boring. I don't regret reading the book - it was interesting and compelling all the way through. But not entirely satisfying.

My Wicked review (the musical) the second time around.

The first viewing of Wicked on stage was amazing, Stephanie J. Block was Elphie but we had Glinda's understudy. This time around Ana Gasteyer was Elphie and Glinda's name is escaping me but she wasn't the understudy! Initial impressions, I thought Block delievered her attitude better than Gasteyer but was monumentally moved by Gasteyer's rendition of "No Good Deed". They were both stunning and wonderful. Glinda the second time was much improved over the understudy from the travelling company. She was cuter and perkier and totally Glindafied. I do feel that Gasteyer (who's name I'm probably killing) and Glinda the second time harmonized better, which very very important.

The diffrences between the book at the play still hit me the second time around and weren't bothersome just different. The book is MUCH darker but would change the entire tone of the musical if directly translated. Glinda should be more deviant, Elphie moodier, Fiyero married you know the little things :D . I really don't like the love triangle either, because it put a strain on Glinda and Elphie that was completely made up for the play. They had a strained relationship for other reasons in the book, more worthy reasons, not a guy! :P

I will have to re-read the book one of these days. Good luck Cem!! It's not an easy read to begin with hopefully it'll be smoother the second time around.

Hey TM! I got to see Anna too! She was excellent for the sarcastic humour.

I can't remember who played Glinda, but she wasn't very good at dancing *and* singing at the same time... "Popular" really suffered because of that.

Glad you had a great time! :D I'd love to see it again, but there's no money for such things right now.

Alatar, that's excellent! I'm excited for you, too. :D 43 days!

Jude, :LMAO:

There are more pictures in the book . . . I haven't really compared the two. The book also has photos from various casts, while the site just has the OBC.

I haven't read SoaW yet (I'm working on it!), but I'm suprised that you thought there were so many loose ends. Maguire said that he had tried to tie everything up so he wouldn't have to write a third. Either he wasn't being completely honest or he has a different idea of what constitutes 'closure' than most of us. :P

TM, I've heard mixed reviews of Ana's performance, glad you both liked her! What I have heard of her singing I was not impressed with, but that's only bootleg. I trust your opinions of her much more. :)

He actually said he tied everything up? :Q

I can't wait to hear what you think when you've read it. When is that going to be?

Yes, he said he didn't want to write another sequel.

It will be soon. I'm reading Wicked right now in preparation.
