I think you may be right! I found an online version, and scrolled through all 600+ pages and didn't find it, but I may have missed it.

Putting bizarre creatures in a psaltery must be akin to putting gargoyles on a cathedral. It probably made sense based on some tradition of the time.

Incidentally, there's a 20-minute film based on the images of village life from the Psaltery. I'll watch it later today.
